To use the dishwasher as storage

Dishwasher is never ever used. It's rubbish and just welds food onto plates. Yes yes, I know you're meant to rinse first but really, what's the point? You might as well then wash them by hand.
Anyway... AIBU in using it to store tinned stuff in? DH thinks I am but I fail to see the problem.
It'd make finding tins easier as I can pull out the rack rather than climbing my short arse onto the worktop to look in the cupboard

We have very soft water and have never used dishwasher salt, or felt the need for it.

I put my le crueset stuff in the dishwasher without any problems. I just rinse off the big bits of food first.

I wouldn't be without mine, a 29min eco wash is enough to get everything sparkly clean 99.9% of the time, and I clean the filter at the bottom about every 6 months. I use finish tablet, bought when on offer and also cheap rinse aid and salt. They are much more economical than hand washing, unless you like to wash everything in dirty water and to rinse it!

Get a new dishwasher or clean yours out and see if that helps ! Couldn't be without mine

You don't need the salt in a soft water area Smile we live in the highlands and our water is v soft and we absolutely don't need salt. The plumber who fixed in ours said so.

I have a basic (to todays standards) 3 programme 20 year old dishwasher and it works brilliantly apart from when I forget to put in the tablets You must be doing something wrong

My Mum washes her plates before putting the, in the dishwasher. It drives me crazy.

OP i think you should try and get your dishwasher working or get a new one. I love mine, it is not really bigger on the inside than the outside just like the tardis. Wink

if you don't need it,don't use it!! me and my old flat mate used it to store spare glasses we could get out at parties. we never used enough dishes in one go to warrant using it!!

DeepRedBetty · 28/04/2013 12:55

I used old dishwasher to store stuff in incoming MIL emergency situations when it died, while I waited for a dead cheap second hand one to turn up. yanbu

trinity0097 Yes - that's exactly what I like to do! How did you know? Wink

also put Le Creueset in though I suspect it takes the shine off the enamel and makes them more prone to stick.
