To use the dishwasher as storage

Dishwasher is never ever used. It's rubbish and just welds food onto plates. Yes yes, I know you're meant to rinse first but really, what's the point? You might as well then wash them by hand.
Anyway... AIBU in using it to store tinned stuff in? DH thinks I am but I fail to see the problem.
It'd make finding tins easier as I can pull out the rack rather than climbing my short arse onto the worktop to look in the cupboard

A dishwasher wont work unless you keep the filters clean, buy proper tablets and never put anything with potato or similar food starch in there.

Mine is lovely and works without rinsing and I use cheapo daisy tablets and plates etc always super clean!

But use it for storage if you like. I couldn't cope without mine!

Sounds like you need a new dishwasher! I never scrape and mine works fine.

I'm horrified your dishwasher is never used cannot cope without one but YANBU re. storage; we have viewings for our house and all those little things on the side get stuffed on there so we seem tidy Grin

Sorry, not scrape, rinse! I do always scrape! I couldn't cope without mine either.

I used to love it, couldn't be without it then it stopped working and with it being integrated was going tk a fortune to replace. Within a month or two I decided that I didn't miss it..

So now it has wine and juice and such like in. Ideal as its quite cool. Better than sitting there empty taking up space

Either clean your dw ad try and get it working.

Or ditch it and build yourself a cupboard.

We did this! Just bear in mind your kitchen sink is likely to be plumbed into the dishwasher, and if it blocks it can overflow into the dishwasher (ours did...!)

I've got a really old dishwasher and never rinse the plates, and even put things that have had potato on in it, and it makes everything lovely and sparkling clean. You need a.new dishwasher, or a cupboard instead.

ooh, I like the wine rack idea. we just got about 8 cases of very reduced wine which is currently hidden on tops of wardrobes etc.

You scrap the plates, keep the salt, rinse aid topped up. Also don't let things fester in there for ages. Then it'll work. And use the proper setting.

Just how much tinned stuff do you have?!

What you're doing sounds a bit gross. you see that's what DH thinks but couldn't explain why it was wrong to put tins in it.

creature we have a fair few tins, our dinners seem to revolve around tinned tomatoes a lot of the time!

There was a dishwasher that didn't work in this house when we moved in. We used it as storage for a while until we got the kitchen redone.

Salt is a softener - no idea about using it when water is already soft...

Ahh - this thread confirms for me why not to get a dishwasher. It's something else to break down and pay to get fixed or get a new one. Washing up takes me 15 mins tops and everything is super clean Smile Plus I use Crueset casserole dish or stoneware stuff that you can't put in a dishwasher anyway....

I scrape excess food off plates and never rinse them, I keep the filters clean and use tablets plus salt and rinse aid and dont have any problems with my dishwasher. I couldnt be without it

I rinse every time I put stuff in - so I stack the breakfast stuff and put it on a rinse cycle, same after lunch then it goes on after dinner.

We have it topped up with dw salts and rinse aid and try and do a service wash once a month.

You need a decent dishwasher. Bosch or Miele.

I should probably use mine for storage. We never use it. Easier and cheaper to wash dishes in the sink.

not cheaper, you use less water and less energy in a dwr.
