To be exhausted by constant competetiveness from some people?

Ok I am not anti-competetion and I think that a proper 1st, 2nd and 3rd is good but it is the petty one-upmanship between everday folk that gets to me:
Competetive parenting, gardening, homeownership, smugness, bullying, competetive misery, bitchyness, wieght-loss gain, clothes labels etc. Everyone just STOOOOOOOOP!
Can't stop the course of human nature I guess but OMG sometimes it just gets a bit wearing.

Oh yes. Sparkling Cat is a Princess, and very entitled but I love her so much.

My eldest is very competitive, part of it is that what she buys is to make up for the long hours her and her partner work. It has taken a lot of piss taking to get her to calm down, we can do that, though, being family. I hate competitive misery/illness, that, more than bragging that gets on my nerves. I have worked with adults with disabilities and in end of life care, as well as with people with real problems, I can't stand people who find something to moan about and are constantly negative.

I work in an academic environment where everyone is a middle class ponce things like Turkey Dinosaurs, reality TV shows, Primark are very looked down up. These things are the staple of my very working class upbringing life!

Yesterday I was saying how I actually love TV quiz shows and reality TV. Most people were looking at me like I'd just sprouted another head but one colleague actually said 'No I think I watch way more shit TV than you'. I was like My TV habits are very much frowned upon by my colleagues so why would anyone wanna compete on that subject?

I think us cat lovers are brainwashed. Cats are so demanding luffly and fluffy. :o

Schro Yes, I could imagine him on one of those, too, but actually his sleeping place of choice is the windowsill, which is where he is now. His life is SO hard

I find the ultra competative people funny. I enjoy winding them up - it used to piss me off, but now I have some fun with it.

I'm sure I've said it before, but collectively they are known as the "Tommy Two Shits" - You've had one shit, they've had two. You've been to Tenerife, they went to Elevenerife...

My parents had a part Russian Blue cat. One of my school friends also had a cat (a relative of our cat - I can't remember if his mother was our cats sister from a different litter). There was some connection.

Anyway she was boasting of the size of her cats balls. Now I'd not really realised that our cat's balls were really huge in comparison to normal cat's ball size.... I never paid that much attention to cat's balls.

So I told my friend - oh my cat's balls are much bigger... and she then insisted on measuring them. I won the cat's ball size competition but she then said they were an odd shaped and abnormal. Bad loser!

We've also had the bra size competition (Apparently, despite being professional measured in m&s and mothercare - I'm not wearing the correct size - so I've lost that competition). Although she could have measured me to find out for definite.

Work wise, I did well on one occasion and she wasn't able to reach the same level so whilst everyone else is congratulating me my friend has to sour the occasion by saying I only did well because of my supervisors backing.

There is also bragging about 'who's been the most ill' when winter vomiting, measured by weightloss, hurlage distance and length of time off work, time in bathroom and extra washing.

I don't want to get engaged in these stupid competitions but I somehow always do. I don't care about them; they are just unimportant but I can't help myself. Does it matter if she thinks she's right? Why does she have to win them all?

Schro Yes, they have an inherent need to know about EVERYTHING that's going on. ESPECIALLY things that are none of their business (such as washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers etc.) Oh, and I was a crazy cat lady before I had my DS

We don't have competitive designer clothes where I am it's competitive charity shop/nct sale/ buy and sell stuff website buying.

I've found my current area the SE a lot more competitive than the NE or NW maybe just the circles I'm mixing with

Personally I hate competition about cars and stupid things that men people get competitive about - should I move to Cornwall or the North East and have a more relaxed time of it I am wondering? I don't come across ridiculous competitiveness often though in S.E., obviously I am simply not aspiring-middle-class enough.

(I actually thing we live in an increasingly materialist society but I could be wrong. My son is seemingly competitive about trainers and mobiles and it infuriates me, as at his age (10) I had not a notion about such things. Very face.)

A bit of competitive feeling is maybe inevitable except for the most enlightened beings, and not always a bad thing e.g. imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and our friends can help us live easier and/or better lives.

(But its a difficult and thorny subject sometimes. I think the people I feel most comfortable with are not competitive people, generally speaking, who have other values.)

I think it's maybe because in SE I have only met people through mum and babies groups that's probably the difference
