To get so cross with a toothpaste company

My daughter hates the minty taste of toothpaste. She has been using 'aquafresh little teeth' for years. The dentist is fine with this it has 1450ppm fluoride. Now they have changed the formula and it has an added blue stripe and too minty. Now I have to spend a fortune looking for mild minty candidates that don't make her tongue 'burn'. Why oh why do that have to mess about with the flavour. Also why add a bright blue stripe? Imagine the chemicals added to make it that blue.
Argh.

They've changed all the Aquafresh kids toothpastes, the Big Teeth one is also now vile, and kind of wierd cross between minty and fruity, bleurgh. I'm just going to buy a mild adult one from now on tbh, they're the same fluoride strength but about half the price!

EggwiniasRevenge · 23/04/2013 12:38

Tesco do a strawberry and bubblegum which both have more than 1000ppm fluoride.

They are both very very very sticky though.

coppertop · 23/04/2013 12:39

I knew as soon as I saw the thread title that it would be this!

I'm having exactly the same problem. Dd loved the old variety but hates the new one. She can just about put up with it if she drinks a lot of water afterwards but it's a complete PITA.

I'm forcing the mint from birth after meeting numerous kids kicking off that they can't get strawberry toothpaste when they are 12.

I'm mean.

Luckily we don't have that problem. I love aquafresh! Colgate makes me wretch

MidniteScribbler · 23/04/2013 12:41

You can get cinnamon flavoured toothpaste with flouride. The US has it, but there's companies in the UK that sell it.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/04/2013 12:43

I have had the same problem, but I've told ds2 he's got to get on with itBlush

He manages, but if someone knows a milder adult toothpaste please post the name because I'd be happy enough to find an alternative but I'd rather not go down the non minty route

poppy77 · 23/04/2013 12:43

We have had toothpaste trauma in this house too since Aquafresh changed them all round, so I can sympathise. If I'd have known I would have stockpiled the old ones.

wigglesrock · 23/04/2013 12:47

I thought it was just us Smile We had a Big Teeth backlash last week. They are now using mine.

BizzyLizzy70 · 23/04/2013 12:47

Obviously the toothpaste flavour technicians aren't parents! Our dentist says so many children don't like toothpaste being too minty you would have thought the manufacturers would have got it right.

YES, my youngest used the new one today, with full tears and gulping water to wash it out. Couldn't see any other non-mint, will have to check elsewhere tomorrow - sigh.

Surely someone can see a gap in the market - looks like we're going to be trying all sorts of brands etc. Report back if you find a good one.

EdwiniasRevenge · 23/04/2013 12:53

Why don't you try home bargains or savers or somewhere like that and try and buy up some old stock as an interim measure?

daisychicken · 23/04/2013 12:54

Lidl do fruity flavoured children's toothpastes if you have a store nearby?

My youngest (8) prefers the fruity taste - I tried it and its got bubblegum fruity flavour.

fledtoscotland · 23/04/2013 13:08

We struggle with toothpaste that is too minty for DC (4 & 5) and have found boots kids toothpaste tastes ok. think its 1000ppm fluoride but they get regular fluoride brushing at the dentist anyway. m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/Boots-Smile-Kids-Toothpaste-Ages-2-6-50ml_1104610/

BizzyLizzy70 · 23/04/2013 13:14

Thanks for the tip fledtoscotland, now got various family members off to find old stocks of 'little teeth'.

Morrisons do one @1450 and there's no mint flavour - I think it costs 70p

Lidl do a herby one which I prefer to the mint, but that might be an aquired taste too.

BizzyLizzy70 · 23/04/2013 13:28

Wonderingsoul it is on the list! Thanks

When I was a kid, I had Mr Punch fruity toothpaste which I loved, despite the fact that I remember it being quite chalky and a little gritty. They had strawberry, lime and orange flavour at least and I would probably use it now if they still made it. Happy days....Grin

quoteunquote · 23/04/2013 13:32

We have a mint hater here age 9, I wish I could find a decent very mild one.

we don't have the pound stores / bargain shops anywhere near,

but will check the others out, I think we have tried most.

DoJo · 23/04/2013 13:33

Should have googled before I posted - looks like it is still being made in some form at least: www.amazon.co.uk/Punch-Judy-Toothpaste-Childrens-Strawberry/dp/B001ECQS3Q

MissFredi · 23/04/2013 13:37

I have a hello kitty strawberry one which I use in the evening because even at my age I don't like the strong minty taste when I'm going to bed. It's mccleans whitening in the morning, which isn't very strong but does cover the sink in lurid blue globs.

Not sure about the ingredients of the HK one though, I never thought to check. But it's very nice Smile

ilovepowerhoop · 23/04/2013 13:59

the kids sensodyne pronamel toothpaste is only mildly minty and tolerated by ds
