AIBU?

AIBU what's with the whole 'nethuns' nonsense?

I'm quite happily a member of both forums, I get lots out of both, but it does REALLY rip my knitting when a few on MN call it net'huns'.

Dare I say I actually find it quite an offensive term, being from Glasgow the word 'hun' has very particular connotations in a sectarian form.

I know there is a fairly large cross over of users, so why with the hate people?

The posters are a lot younger over there, but the threads are almost identical.

now I've only ever flirted with the pink side but my mind boggled at all the screen clutter.

anyway, a hospital receptionist called me 'hun' the other day. I'd never spoken to her before. She called me it several times. It was weird but it was quite nice and reassuring actually, made me want to hug her weird

I find it rather odd that anyone on any forum gives a shiny shite about who's using another forum. You find one you like, you stick with it. That's all really. I can't bear 'hun' but it's not limited to NetMums (sadly) - it's bloody everywhere.

They're the nethuns and we're the vipers.

It's like a scarier version of westside story Wink

mermaid where I live hun is a pejorative term for protestant. Like taig or fenian is for catholic. That's why I find it strange to read it frequently on Mumsnet.

I'm from Glasgow and I don't mind seeing or using the term "net huns".

And I doubt it is because of the particular area of Glasgow you are from because I grew up in Sighthill!

My eyes can't take Nethuns.

Either the sparkly tickers or all the eye rolling I do when I read some of the bigoted shite on there.

wiggles really? It doesn't bother me at all in fact I've never been called or heard anyone be called hun in my whole life, I just saw it written on the road when I got lost one time in West Belfast and had to ask my friend what it meant.

saycheeeeeese · 22/04/2013 22:28

I should say I have heard people use hun in the "hunni" way and I do call my close friends hun sometimes. Not strangers online though.

I'm from west/central Scotland and I've never associated Nethuns as having anything to do with what hun means in Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

I find nethuns all rather twee and sickeningly sweet. I get particularly infuriated by posts which say your babz your rules or other such drivel. No you absolutely cannot do whatever you like with your child just because you gave birth to her/him. Another classic is your babz you know best. No you probably don't know better that a paediatrician in this case you bloody eejit. Unless you are one yourself of course.

I also hate the tickers, particularly the ones that countdown how long it has been since you (or your child) last did this or that. Who really cares? I actually read one which said something like: extended breastfeeding, baby-led weaning, baby wearing, home-schooling, mum of ... and then went on to list every child's age, down to the fecking hours, and so on and so forth. I think I actually vomited at that point.

Anyway, that's why I don't go there any more.

They said Gerrof, that I was calling Troll which I was and persistent breakage of rules...and a couple of personal attacks..but I only attacked the gits that were bashing/racist/disablist/twatist...so 'twas soooo unfair!!!

Gerrof I was born in the 90's. I still can't stand the glittery shite over there, it's blinding.

Gerrof, my first banning was years ago, about 8 I think, my crime was disagreeing with someone.

I had a PM from a 'helpful' Mod who told me off.

I disagreed with someone else a few days later and my card was marked.

I wasn't even rude TBH, I just challenged a particularly bigoted opinion, but that made me a mean girl apparently.

My second banning was because I did the same as above, but with gay abandon, I knew what would happen but I didn't care! certain things needed saying.

I must say though, I don't hate Nethunners, but the Mods I experienced were right cunts, power crazed bitches with an over inflated sense of importance.

I hear their local boards are good though.

and....and....since they banned me, one of the people I regularly locked horns with has been on there slaaaagging me off...which is also against the rules (to discuss a banned member), but the person is still there..see..unfair
