to go to a&e later

Been in a lot of pain, not like normal period pain but sharp gnawing vile pain since Tuesday night. Went to GP on Thurs, he felt my abdomen and said my uterus felt enlarged but couldnt give me an internal examination (no chaperone at that time) and said it could be a)my coil has slipped down or b)fibroids or c) something else. So he recommended I went to my family planning clinic that evening. I did but there was no doctor there that evening so couldnt be examined or have coil removed or whatever. To cut a long story short the pain is still there getting worse by the moment and I am on my second period of this month and passing very brown stringy/clotty blood.
Im in two minds whether to go to A&E tonight but im worried its wrong to do so? Please be gentle with me im in agony

Well I wouldn't judge you! I hope they can get you sorted and you feel better soon.

I'd go ASAP. People go to a&e for far less. Sat night tends to be very busy, so you need to go now.

How about a walk in centre? Or call your Out of Hours GP first?

I'm sorry you are in pain, are you taking regular painkillers?

What you shouldn't do is call an ambulance

I would go - it sounds similar to what I went through when I had large fibroids ie agony, irregular bleeding etc.

If nothing else, surely you need to have the coil removed and so if you don't go to a&e, go bk to the FP Clinic.

If you are in angony i think you should go,you might have to wait a while though.

Wouldn't bother with out of hours. At least at A and E there will be someone to chaperone.

Similar, but with only mild pain. Was an infection caused by a tiny bit of retained tampon. Didn't 'feel' like an infection to me, no itching etc..

Offending article was removed at FPC and I had strong antibiotics.

Don't try to self diagnose though- get yourself to A&E.

Well I would call out of hours gp rather than a&e but only as you get an appointment and I wouldn't fancy hours sat in a&e on a Saturday evening.

And you will be right by a&e if the dr decided you needed emergency treatment

If you feel that you need someone medical to give you a push validate this then you could ring NHS direct, but they might need to ring you back and that may take a while.

Might not be appropriate to ask right now ........but why would a doctor require a chaperone to give an internal exam? Is this a new thing???

Your ooh will not do an internal exam.

Friend of mine had similar symptoms and her coil had made its way out and had to be surgically removed

only going from my experience here but if I were you, I would take over night things - I don't mean a suitcase full but be prepared for the fact that they may keep you in. If nothing else, take a book, wipes and a toothbrush. I apologise if that sounds crazy but I had to go a&e 3 times with fibroids and each time I was kept in and was glad I had a couple of bits and pieces with me.

I thought the rule for GPs was that they had to ask if you wanted a chaperone and provide one or delay the examination if you did and none available. I am not sure that they have to have one if you don't mind.
