I took DH to A&E this morning after getting sent home from work after an injury (another thread)
Whilst in the waiting room a mother and daughter walked in behind us. After 10 mins we were sent to X-ray we were in X-ray around 15-20 mins. After the xray we got sent back to the waiting room.
Mother and daughter still waiting to be seen.

We were waiting for around an hour after that when the mother stands up and says to te daughter 'I best go see if he's awake yet' and walked out.

She returned 5 mins later with a baby no older than 6-8mths old in a car seat.

She'd left him in the car for over an hour because he was asleep. She was in A&E.

Wibu to have my judgey pants well up.

Btw we had ds3 with us who's 20 weeks and he was fine. Why couldn't she have carried him in in his car seat? Rather than leave him in the car where she couldn't see him Confused

Thread about leaving kids in car whilst nipping into a shop reminded me.

Could somebody have been sat in the car with the baby? Surely nobody would leave a little one in the car alone for that length of time?

Sirzy · 18/04/2013 22:52

That's awful!

HollyBerryBush · 18/04/2013 22:53

How do you know someone wasnt in the car with the baby?

YoniOrNotYoni · 18/04/2013 22:56

Someone else must have been in car withhim.

M0naLisa · 18/04/2013 22:57

No she had keys with her. When she came back in she was saying to daughter (in a hushed voice) that 'he was starting to crying when she got there so that was lucky' so can't see anyone else being say in car with him

Confused Lucky??

Still suspect someone was with baby.

Husband, teenage DC.

yaimee · 19/04/2013 12:27

Either someone was with the baby or this is exaggerated, sorry op.

AngelinaJoliesBeard · 19/04/2013 13:46

I'm surprised that people don't believe this could happen. YANBU to have your judgey pants up on this one. Mine would have been up to my shoulders.

countrykitten · 19/04/2013 14:07

Sounds very plausible to me - and appalling. Amazed that people on here think that things like this are not commonplace!

MarvellousYou · 19/04/2013 14:17

Hoik them up OP although I would like to think there was a bored teenager on their ipod in the car

M0naLisa · 19/04/2013 14:55

I'd like to hope but it didn't sound like it. The way she said 'he was starting to cry'
Made me think he must have been there alone.

OP posts:
M0naLisa · 19/04/2013 14:56

Nope not exaggerated. Even DH was shocked. When we left A&E DH said 'that baby can't have been on his own surely not?' But by the looks he was left in the car as to not disturb him sleeping. Confused

I know people who do stuff like this. I try very hard never to judge but some days it's tough!!

MrsMacFarlane · 19/04/2013 15:09

A lot of people do this. I see it frequently in cars parked outside shops. It never ceases to amaze me that idiots leave their most prized and precious unattended in this way. I bet they wouldn't leave their handbag/purse/laptop in a car whilst they nipped to the post office, but somehow it's okay to do it with their child. Insane. Judgey Pants are entirely appropriate attire for this occasion.

Clargo55 · 19/04/2013 15:23

Surely people should ring the police if they see a baby left unattended in a car?
The baby could die, even in mild weather a car can get very hot.
What if the handbrake fails? Confused

MrsMelons · 19/04/2013 15:35

I am surprised so many people are doubting this actually happened - there are some very very odd people around and people think nothing of leaving babies alone or small children looking after toddlers.

I wouldn't even leave my handbag or phone in the car let alone a baby where I couldn't see them.

ShowMeTheYoni · 19/04/2013 15:40

I believe you and I would have judged to.

HoHoHoNoYouDont · 19/04/2013 15:56

Clargo I once witnessed a similar incident and rang the police. They did absolutely nothing. They said words to the effect that unless the baby was in distress or if I had witnessed someone trying to get into the car they wouldn't act on it. I was Shock. I gave the parent a right talking to on his return. I received a load of verbal and very threatening behaviour from him. I just feel sorry for his child. In the time he had been away from the vehicle I could have taken the child and have been miles away.

idiuntno57 · 19/04/2013 16:10

I once forgot about newborn DS4 and left him in the car for half an hour before I realised. Sounds nuts now but as he was a recent addition I hadn't computed him in as utterly were. I felt terrible when I realised. Is it at all possible that this is what happened and she was just using bravado?

idiuntno57 · 19/04/2013 16:11

not sure where the utterly came from. meant as it were

Clargo55 · 19/04/2013 16:15

Well done HoHoHo at least if the worst were to happen you know you tried to do something.
It saddens me that the police did nothing. I thought they would at least send a PCSO by.
What if the baby had stopped breathing? Wouldn't it be hard for anyone outside the car to tell if the baby had stopped breathing or was sound asleep?

BimbaBirba · 19/04/2013 16:29

Appalling!

OP have you seen this true story
Shock

countrykitten · 19/04/2013 17:38

Good God! She probably thought she was being a good parent because she left a note.... Hmm
