To give up on Jeans.

I think I have had enough of wearing jeans in general, I'm thinking of going Kirsty Alllsop.

I'm a size 12, usually between 9.7 and 10 stones but I'm finding that my jeans are just so bloody uncomfortable, I'm always pulling them up or they are too tight, after 3 DCs I can't find any that are comfy around the waist.

Am I the only one, am I just buying shit jeans. I think I need a compete style change.

Definitely discontinued here in the UK I'm afraid. Didn't even see any at the outlet store I visited in Florida last month. Sad

lazydog · 17/04/2013 23:31

They're definitely still on sale (for $59.99, so about 40 quid) online here... Wonder how many I can fit in my suitcase next time I'm visiting family? New business opportunity by the sounds of it! Grin

gordyslovesheep · 17/04/2013 23:34

put me down for 2 pairs - 8, blue and black Lazy!

lazydog · 17/04/2013 23:43

You know what... Think they are phasing them out as they're listed as "online only" and the choice of sizes is pretty limited :(

katkit1 · 18/04/2013 08:54

Haha stuntgirl

I look crap in everything at the moment - jeans, dresses pj's - had baby 5 months ago via c section and still look 5 months pregnant - huge belly argh! Will look at gap though - thanks

katkit1 · 18/04/2013 08:57

Texas tuxedo - much needed laugh - will use that haha

LucilleBluth · 26/04/2013 13:57

Went to fat face this morning and found a nice pair of straight leg jeans, tried em on and not only do I look quite slim but they are comfy....so I bought them.

Will be going to Gap next time I am in the city.

I haven't found jeans to fit for 20 years, and it's not me that's changed it's the shape the manufacturers make them. I am 5'8" and 10.5 stone and have been since I was about 25 (now 55).
I have a small waist in ratio to my hips and thighs. I thought this was supposed to be a classic pear shape but NO jeans fit. The waist on a 14 gapes by a good 6" and the hips are too tight. Most are so tight on the thighs I can't even get them up, it makes me feel like a freak.
Oldieandgoldie I used to have Matalan jeans that fit, I still have some that must be 20 years old but the ones in store now are no good.
I did get some of these but I still had to sew darts in the waist.

Going to check out those levi curve ID.

KnitFastDieWarm · 26/04/2013 20:24

I am an hourglass, around a 12-14 at the moment, with a small waist, big boobs, big bum, and thigh muscles like a rugby player (I do a lot of weight training). Oh, and I have short legs and a long torso. So basically, I don't fit into clothes :(

90% of high street jeans are designed for people with proportionally slim legs and a low waist to hip ratio. Which is all very well, but it does mean that jeans shopping is a nightmare.
Low waists give me the appearance of having a scary beer belly and make my bum look flat. High waists make me look like Betty boop, and not in a good way. Bootcuts make me feel frumpy (they look great on some but not on me)
The solutions?
Donna Karen do great jeans (tkmaxx, obviously, I don't throw around that kind of money!) tkmaxx also sometimes stock 17/21, a US brand which is cheap and great for the curvy-of-hip. I also recently discovered that Zara do excellent stretch denim. You may have to swallow your pride and go up a size as they run small, but once you've got them on you won't care. They are also reasonably priced.
It's worth persisting with jeans - there is a pair out there for us all, the pair that will make us smile admiringly in the changing room mirror instead of cringing because we can't do up the button/they make us look scrawny/frumpy/we can't get the buggers over our thighs and then they gape at the waist/delete as appropriate ;-p

grimbletart · 26/04/2013 22:32

KnitFast - you sound a bit like me - long torso, rugby player thighs, short legs and a tiny waist. Always been a classic hour glass shape and struggled to find any jeans to fit. Sadly, now I am a bit of an old gimmer and the sand has mostly sunk to the bottom of the hour glass I have given up completely.

No designers seem to think any woman has a waist any more and that they all have legs that go up to their armpits Sad

drfayray · 27/04/2013 01:26

I don't look too bad in them but prefer dresses. I wear dresses all the time now. Easy to move around in. I do live in Brisbane though where the temperature drops to 20 degrees C in the winter....

practicality · 27/04/2013 09:02

Lucille I have found these Next ones that are great. They are not the high waist ones but the high rise ones. They are cut really well, high enough to hold the stomach in but not waisted in a restricted way. They don't contain lots of stretch so they keep their shape and are supportive without being restrictive.

here

They don't look like 'mom jeans' on. I wear a cami vest to the hips anyway so you don't see how high they are. It works because you don't get added bulk over the stomach with the button sticking out on a stomach that does as well- like you do with lower cuts IYSWIM.

HTH.

VisualiseAHorse · 27/04/2013 09:09

Glad I'm not the only one ready to give up.

My big problem is my 'spare tyre'...jeans that fit well on my thighs and bum are too small round my middle and dig in. Jeans that fit round my middle are really baggy on my bum and thighs.

I've made a vow to wear more dresses this summer.

(my little sister doesn't even own a pair of jeans!)

theoriginalandbestrookie · 27/04/2013 09:16

I have found success with Mint Velvet not all the styles work for me but I have had great wear from their denim skinny jeans

practicality · 27/04/2013 09:43

I should have said I am a size 14 apple shape with no discernible waist. I have that post c-section apron ( hence the vest to disguise) and a tyre of joy to contend with. My stomach never went back after children and just looks like a deflated pregnancy stomach on an otherwise slimmish frame. I find clothes shopping stressful but wearing ill fitting clothes more stressful and confidence shattering.

I am definitely in the camp of making do with the best you have got so I work around these issues.

MannUp · 27/04/2013 10:23

I got some Salsa jeans from John Lewis and they make me look a lot slimmer than I actually am. Bit pricey but worth it!

NeedlesCuties · 27/04/2013 12:44

I am sooo glad it isn't just me! Didn't realise anyone else had this agony regarding finding, wearing, loving jeans.

VisualiseAHorse · 27/04/2013 13:14

It seems like the general answer might be to wear high-waisted jeans?

SorrelForbes · 27/04/2013 17:57

Honestly, the Gap High Rise Skinnies are great. I'm 5'3", size 12 and very curvy (think 12" difference between waist and hip measurements). They fit brilliantly with no gaping at the waist at all.

LucilleBluth · 27/04/2013 18:14

I like the look of those Next ones practicality, I may order those.

Why do the models have to be 5 10' and oh so very lean, the girl on that link would look good in a bin bag.

Elasticated waist.

You have to be prepared to get over yourself to buy a pair, but it's hard to go back to the other side once you have.

Bend, stretch, sit, kneel however you like. And nobody need know.

Unami · 27/04/2013 19:11

I know a lot people think that elasticated waists are only for size 18 + but denim is really a very tough fabric, and a band of fitted, reinforced denim is not what most of us really need around our hips and waists. That is, imo, the reason why it is so hard to find a pair of well fitted jeans, and buying other trousers is a doddle in comparison.

QueenStromba · 27/04/2013 19:28

I never looked good in jeans - always went for trousers. I've lived in skirts and dresses for about a decade now though. Dresses are particularly good since my weight goes up and down like a whore's knickers - I've got dresses that fit and look good when I'm anything from a 12 to an 18.
