She was our first woman prime-minister - a significant personal achievement, especially for the daughter of a grocer from Grantham, born in 1925 Shock

Also I agree with those that say these ceremonial occasions are something we do really well in Britain.

So AIBU to be watching this morning - in spite of disagreeing with many of her policies ? Will you be watching ?
And what do you make of both her personal achievement and her legacy ?

Queenie looks to have lost some weight with that tummy bug.

YoniMaroney · 17/04/2013 11:58

Major gets better with each passing year.

Jenny70 · 17/04/2013 11:58

I wonder if there is an after-do, drinks and canapes etc somewhere? Or do all the internationals just fly home today?

skippedtheripeoldmango · 17/04/2013 11:58

cantspel - it that the famous "society" quote or another time she mentioned society?

chubbymomie2012 · 17/04/2013 11:59

i think the black dude may be visually impaired!

cantspel · 17/04/2013 11:59

I think it is a lovely funeral and Mrs T had great taste in music.

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 11:59

We could have a virtual wake on MN?
Whiskey and ham sarnie anyone?
Or a sherry?

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 11:59

Just right chocky - very fitting I thought.

LayMizzRarb · 17/04/2013 11:59

Extremely pissed off for Carol Thatcher, that she is at the back of the cortège, behind the grandchildren AND his 2 Nd wife.

JillJ72 · 17/04/2013 11:59

Just right, fitting, and with a bit of humour.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 11:59

I think John Major has a portrait in his attack. The man never changes.

landofsoapandglory · 17/04/2013 11:59

I feel sorry for the family having the eyes of the world on them. You just want to blub at a funeral of a loved one don't you, not remain all dignified. I'd be a right mess, the last thing I'd want is 2,000 pairs of eyes on me, as well as millions watching on the tele!

Bowlersarm · 17/04/2013 12:00

Well that was a nice send off

gazzalw · 17/04/2013 12:00

Dimbleby has made a few gaffes today hasn't he.....I bet Michael Thatcher will love having been referred to as a grand-daugher???!!!

BastardDog · 17/04/2013 12:00

Please let there be no trouble outside

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 12:00

Wow the shaft of light when they opened St Paul's door just now.
Amazing.

Yet another lovely MN moment to add to my list.

I attended MT's funeral with MNers. Grin

cantspel · 17/04/2013 12:01

skippedtheripeoldmango No that is the quote which the left like to misquote or rather leave out the rest of what she said.

Flosshilde · 17/04/2013 12:01

Ooh I've got some Harvey's Bristol Cream.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/04/2013 12:01

I think Welby was very good. Preferred his brief prayers to Chartres long address. He can do my going out prayers if he's free !
Music throughout has been beautiful.

Carol & Mark should be together behind the coffin.

chubbymomie2012 · 17/04/2013 12:02

i agree id be pissed if i was Carol Thatcher. she should have been with her brother

JakeBullet · 17/04/2013 12:02

Suspect if she has been as ill as is reported they (the family) probably said their goodbyes a long time ago Sad. Perhaps in their minds this is a release Sad.

Beveridge · 17/04/2013 12:02

In response to upthread and bbc coverage - when Chamberlain came back from Munich in 1938, they deliberately failed to cover the significant protests in Trafalgar Square and only focused on the approving crowds in Downing Streets.

They apologised for it a few years ago, if I remeber rightly.
