I don't like it either. Some of the 6th formers where I work seem to wear this attire as there is no business dress code. I don't mind leggings but cover your bottom with a long top. They are too revealing.

orangepudding · 16/04/2013 16:18

So many girls seem to wear footless tights thinkng they are leggings, not pleasent when behind them going up escalators!

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 16:19

"although I think the wearers are unconsciously ' looking for a shag ' or ' looking for a man' because it does look a tad promiscuous ."

yes it's a cry for affection Hmm

away and catch yourself on. the leggings are just too stretched. nothing to do with men or shags.

Fallenangle · 16/04/2013 16:19

Perhaps commenting on taste in knickers would be crass as a conversation opener, but would you ask a friend or work colleague if she knew her underwear was on display? If most posters here are correct the wearers don't realise how much is on show.

I don't generally walk around looking at other peoples arses.

Lorialet · 16/04/2013 16:38

I find it amusing rather than offensive. My DS thinks it's hilarious ~ he almost walked into a lamp post the other day because he couldn't take his eyes off the huge thong adorned arse waddling along in front of us!

EeyoreIsh · 16/04/2013 16:40

a colleague turned up to work one day wearing leggings and a short top.

I was mortified for her.

EeyoreIsh · 16/04/2013 16:41

To put it in context, everyone else was wearing smart business clothes.

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 16:43

leggings are definitely not business wear. what on earth was she thinking?

IvanaCake · 16/04/2013 17:19

If I had a colleague at work with her knickers on display I would absolutely tell her because it would be completely inappropriate!

I would also tell any of my close friends because I know them well enough to know that it would be unintentional.

A stranger I wouldn't tell because it could well be intentional although fuck knows why

HollyBerryBush · 16/04/2013 17:31

My issue is bra straps.

And youths with their pants round their knees.

Does no one own a mirror any more?

Theicingontop · 16/04/2013 17:33

Just be glad you weren't me today, when in a queue for the cash machine, the young lady in front had obviously forgotten to wear underwear under her sheer leggings.

And then bent down to get something from the bottom of her buggy.

It was very sunny.

I saw her breakfast...

BarredfromhavingStella · 16/04/2013 17:34

Lol, I didn't realise quite how crap leggings were until a nice gobby builder told me how nice my arse was, especially on show, as he drove past me-needless to say I now ensure all tops worn with leggings are arse covering ones...Blush

HollyBerryBush · 16/04/2013 17:38

Tell me, what is the point of nice strappy top, or backless one, and a bra on display? Usually not a matching colour. It looks slovenly.

First item rule - always have an appropriate bra.

I saw a girl with a handkerchief top at the weekend deliberately worn to show off her tattoos with a bog standard bra on - just why? It looked bloody awful

BrittaPie · 16/04/2013 17:43

Strappy top and bra star is fine though, surely? Strapless with bra straps is bad, but if it is fobidden to wear strappy tops I will die of heat...

usualsuspect · 16/04/2013 17:57

Strappy tops and bras are ok my me.

I don't come over all prudish if I see a womans bra strap.

Theicingontop · 16/04/2013 18:04

There'd be more criticism of a woman wearing a strappy top without a bra, I bet.

Springdiva · 16/04/2013 18:15

although I think the wearers are unconsciously ' looking for a shag '

No, I think the wearers are very consciously saying I'll wear what the hell I like and up yours - so sort of admire it.

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 18:19

agree icing.

i cant wear strappy tops. i have really broad shoulders and it just seems to 'enhance' them Hmm so i just have to ensure that my bra is the right colour underneath as the 'straps' on all my 'strappy' tops are broad and dont show bra straps.

complexnumber · 16/04/2013 18:25

I don't generally walk around looking at other peoples arses

er... well... how do I put this... some of us do!

LimitedEditionLady · 16/04/2013 19:27

To the "I dont generally go around looking at other people arses" comment. Erm, good neither do I generally?

If only people could see how awful their backsides look with those thin leggings on. They look naked, maybe we should take a snap with our mobiles and show them before running off! Its not as if they have a supermodel body & even then a long shirt/tunic or dress looks best with leggings.

Icelollycraving · 16/04/2013 21:35

Promiscuous? From wearing ratty leggings? Really?! Hmm
