I've just seen an advert for Coke Zero where they trick people into thinking they're drinking Fat Coke.

WTF?

I woudl go MENTAL. I hate artificial sweeteners but do quite like the occasional coke, especially at the cinema.

What on earth made them think this ad was a good idea?

Basically, it's in a cinema, the bloke from the sweet kiosk appears on the cinema screen and tells the audience that they woudl love Coke Zero, in fact they wouldn't tell the difference from Coke. And then reveals that he gave them all Coke Zero secretly.

I mean WHAT? That's not how you build trust in a brand.

I think I might boycott. Erm. or something.

Have just seen the ad. Of course it's not real, they are all actors. Otherwise why would they all have a coke and be holding it at the same time.

Concerns about allergies is a good reason not to do this, assuming it were real, but other than that, no big deal.

Goldmandra · 16/04/2013 12:09

It fails dismally in selling Coke Zero to me anyway because you only get post-mix Coke in cups like that and IMO post-mix Coke doesn't taste anything like Coke anyway.

I would be cross if I were genuinely tricked like that because I would probably have been sitting there thinking that my drink tasted odd anyway but they are clearly all actors so it isn't really an issue.

DeWe · 16/04/2013 12:17

It's an advert. Not that they actually did it. The "audience" were probably quite pleased they got a free coke and a cinema trip and were paid for it.

Similar to the ads back in the 80s where they asked people to see if they could tell the difference between coke and pepsi. I think all those "just called on to test" were actors paid for it too.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/04/2013 12:18

MyNameIsSpecial - 'fat' coke or 'full-fat' coke is a jokey way of referring to full-sugar coke.

CustardIsMyNemesis · 16/04/2013 12:29

MadCap I'm drinking Cherry Coke Zero right now Smile Get thee to Asda, they have Cherry Pepsi Max too

Fakebook · 16/04/2013 12:34

When I saw this ad, I went on a 5 minute rant to dh about how thick those people were. Didn't they realise they were holding two containers? If they'd picked the cup up from the top, the coke zero cup would have slipped out of the normal coke cup. Also, they taste different. A true full fat coke fan would tell the difference. Such a stupid advert.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/04/2013 12:40

I think I would tell the difference, because artificial sweeteners have an after taste to them that is unmistakable. And the mouth-feel is different too poncy, moi??.

D0oinMeCleanin · 16/04/2013 12:40

I wish you'd all stop posting about Coke Zero and Pepsi Max Cherry Sad

I's not allowed any Sad

I don't like diet coke, I don't like fat coke, I like Coke Zero and Pepsi Max.

chicaguapa · 16/04/2013 12:43

I would have gone back to the kiosk and told them they'd given me diet Coke by mistake. There's no way on earth I wouldn't have noticed. Hmm

WTFisABooyhoo · 16/04/2013 12:44

i think you have issues if you would really go 'mental' at this. (but i dont think you would. you're just being melodramatic)

the rest of your post-massive over reaction.

SarahAndFuck · 16/04/2013 12:44

It was probably just the advert.

Surely in this day and age they wouldn't take the risk of selling something falsely and providing something else, given that people are more aware of allergies etc. Deliberately giving someone the wrong drink and risking a reaction to something would be too great a risk.

And they taste different, so people would have complained about the taste.

And some of them would want their money back or a replacement.

LittleDirewolfBitJoffrey · 16/04/2013 12:46

I thought it was quite amusing, but that's just me. I've not had coke zero in ages so have no idea if it tastes the same or not.

YoniLovesChachi · 16/04/2013 12:50

Don't panic. This isn't being rolled out to every cinema in the country.

VenusStarr · 16/04/2013 12:54

I hate full fat coke and I had some coke zero at a friend's house and by the end of the evening my stomach had swelled so much that I looked about 6 months pregnant! No idea what's in coke zero but it definitely didn't agree with me. If I had to pick it would be diet coke from a can, but I never drink fizzy drinks now.

The advert is silly. I agree :)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/04/2013 12:55

WTFisABooeyHoo - I wouldn't 'go mental' at this - but I would certainly tut crossly. That would have 'em quaking in their boots, I can tell you!! Grin

MadCap · 16/04/2013 12:57

Thanks Custard I shall. Teach me for only shopping in Sainsbos. There's a whole world of crap out there Grin

The ad pisses me off too. Just because it's so obvious that it's not real, that they must think their target audience are idiots for believing it is real. We're all cynical Brits and we know people will sue for anything.

*huff.

Has anyone else converted from Fat Coke to Diet? I used to love Coke but at some point I don't remember I transitioned and I cannot stand the sticky gunky feeling on my tongue. Diet Coke all the way!

RubberBullets · 16/04/2013 13:05

Diet Coke is really bitter, I can't drink it. I like my Coke to be sweet

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/04/2013 13:15

Diet coke makes terrible coke floats too. I really like coke floats, but only with full fat coke and really good vanilla icecream. I don't have either in the house at the moment, because coke floats are too nice and I have very little self control.

BegoniaBampot · 16/04/2013 13:23

but surely the idea of the ad proves nothing. what they have is a cinema full of folk sitting thinking their coke tastes shit and they won't buy it again but couldn't be bothered going to complain or they'd miss the movie. accept i might be overthinking things here.

flowery · 16/04/2013 13:24

I converted years ago. I always used to drink full fat and think Diet was revolting. Then I wanted to lose weight to get married and swapped over. Now I'm used to it I think full fat tastes really sickly and sticky.

PersonalClown · 16/04/2013 13:40

I converted a few years ago too. I couldn't get Full fat/sugar coke so had to have Diet (I was in a must-have-coke-now mood).

Haven't gone back since. I just can't stand the taste of normal anymore!
