AIBU?

To chuck water on their cats?

Next door neighbours cats I have discovered havebeen using our top bit of garden as a toilet.

I'd planned for that to be a swing/slide area for the 2 dds, had saved their Christmas money to buy toys for summer, now it is coated every step in shit. They aren't even burying it. I'm going to have to shovel it all out and it stinks.

I know they can't control their cats, we've tried lion stuff, , pepper, plants they are supposed to hate, blocking fence gaps and nothing has worked.

AIBU to lob a jug of water over them every time they venture shitwards until they stop coming in the garden?

Yanbu. But all the cat folk will be here soon to say you're cruel!

It's worth a go. A super soaker type water gun might be more effective. And I say this as an owner of 2 cats. I'd much rather someone threw water on them than tried to physically harm them in other ways.

We have a cat and YANBU

Well I know some people will tell you that Yabu but I have two cats and I wouldn't object to you throwing water at them. They are a pain in the backside for pooing everywhere. I wouldn't want someone to hurt them but but water wouldn't bother me.

Please stand by with the water jug in case we get flamed!

Ah, I take it back - a nice cat person!

I reckon noone adores my cats like I do but I wouldn't mind my neighbour warning them off with a bit of water. It works and won't hurt them.

I think since you've tried every method available to you, it isn't a bad idea to have water on hand as a deterrent.

A whole jug? No.

A spray bottle set to mist? Absolutely.

I think the chances of completely soaking a cat with a whole jug is nil tbh.

We have "the nasty cat" - a huge bengal cat - which stalks our little cat and tries to get into our house (we have microchip cat flap though)

Have been trying to get him with water for months, got him a beauty last week, he was staring into our house through the cat flat and I chucked a glass of water straight into his face through the flap.

I have a cat, I lover her, I don't want her bullied. I did not hurt the other at, I just give him the fright of his life. And I'll do it again given half the chance.

So go for it OP - and YY to nerf gun!

Nerf super soaker for sure, and I say that as a crazy cat lady.

I would also recommend one of those massive water guns - the reach is far better. Water won't injure them so I wouldn't worry about that (cat owner here too).

Or what about those electronic things that you can get where they can't stand the noise it makes but you can't hear it? Prob v expensive though.

I'm a total cat lady, but yes by all means spray them to stop them shitting in your garden.

Spray though being operative word, whole jug is just cruel. Have you got a water gun you could use? Or just a bottle you could squirt at them?

I have 2 cats and often throw a jug at a neighbouring cat who is mean to them. I rarely get it, but it now runs away when it hears the tap running!

YANBU

I'm a cat owner, super soaker all the way, you'll never make it with a jug in time!

I have a cat and wouldnt mind you chucking water at her if she went to the loo in your garden. But my cat is weird, she only goes in a little bit of our garden and only visits one neighbour for a fuss.

Maybe I have trained her well. Grin

Also a nice cat/dog person.

Yanbu. I have 2 cats and I love them dearly but hate cat poo in the garden. Water is harmless and they will soon learn to avoid your garden

We used to have a neighbours cat hanging off our bird aviary. We threw jugs of water over it on a regular basis.

One summer it walked in our house, tip-toed round our dog and moved in Hmm.

Go for a hose. Great direction and they will learn quickly.

I have a cat but often have to split up cat fights.

yes, water gun better solution.

We have a super soaker to use on our own cats! They love to climb onto to our cars, leaving lovely little muddy paw prints.

we have cats and YANBU, but I wouldnt throw a jug of water over it, maybe a squirt a spray bottle though.

Use a supersoaker. It won't harm them at all, but hopefully will scare them off.

I've got two cats and wouldn't have a problem with my neighbours doing that.

cantspel · 14/04/2013 21:01

I am a cat person and suggest you buy yourself a supersoaker and give them a drenching if you see them in your garden.
Even the daftest cat will get the message very quickly.

apostropheuse · 14/04/2013 21:01

Strangely though, my cats run into the house to use a litter tray and then go back outside to play again. Grin
