I have this terrible fear of having to go whilst at work. I'm hypothyroid, often constipated and if I don't go it makes matters much worse, I've now changed my hours at work so I'm working full days and I fear I'll need to go. I know a lot of colleagues feel the same I think it's just the embarrassment of it. Arghhhh...

Urrgghh - am v thankful I now work from home. As another IBS sufferer I used to hate using workplace loos - for the uninitiated, IBS can manifest itself as a very strong and painful urge to go - which you can't ignore - but you may then have to suffer up to 30 mins, or even longer, of contraction strength cramps before anything actually happens - and then it's often horribly explosive. You do NOT want to be going through all that in public although unfortunately you often have very little choice in the matter. Thankfully at my last place there was a standalone disabled loo - a totally private enclosed room - which you could use if you wanted privacy but having to sometimes use facilities with flimsy partitions was mortifying - yes, I know it's natural and all that but IBS, well, it's not most people's idea of natural so to speak and the last thing you want to do is draw attention to what you've been doing by explaining all about it as you come out and are faced with a queue ......

My DH is like this at work. He has an absolute set routine when it home. Gets very upset if routine is disrupted. I think it's hilarious.

Personally I would say..... Get over it! We all poo.

At least you're not a bloke who makes it very obvious he's going by having to select a cubicle rather than a urinal.

I just use the disabled toilet - there are no disabled folk at work so no harm done.

I have employed all the tactics mentioned so far though, I know everyone does it, I know no-one will judge me and I know it's what they're there for but I still don't like it!
