AIBU to expect next door neighbours to give me my cat back?!?!?!

I am absolutely fuming and doing my nut! This is the first nice day of the year and I've just noticed my 11 year old cat, which went missing 11 months ago, in my next door neighbour's garden. The next door neighbour was sitting outside with her patio doors open and my cat was sitting next to her. Me and my daughters were in shock as we have searched for her and asked around and had even put posters up but had little luck and therefore we assumed that she had died. We kept calling the cat and she instantly recognised us but the woman just sat their ignoring us. We finally got the woman's attention and when we said "excuse me that's our cat" and asked for her back, she blatantly refused as she said she had "taken her to the vet and had her micro chipped". She then brought her husband out, who spoke to us like we were a bunch of idiots. He told us "she was an indoor cat" after we had showed them a load of photographs of her and then they stormed back inside.

It's very obvious that the cat had been shut all this time and the reason we have spotted her now is because it's a very nice day and they have let her roam in the garden.

Where do we stand and AIBU to expect them to return our much loved cat back to us? Thanks for any advice!! Sad

Wow! Fabulous :)

I can stop googling how to scramble pet microchips should you have needed to steal her back :o (It's very complicated and virtually impossibly BTW)

Brilliant news op

thegreylady · 16/04/2013 20:00

great news but we are longing for the details :)

FairPhyllis · 16/04/2013 20:00

What about the second cat though? Did you tell him about the boy cat?

Theicingontop · 16/04/2013 20:01

Yes!

Greenkit · 16/04/2013 20:01

What boy cat??

PeerieMootie · 16/04/2013 20:03

Hooray - that's made my night.

We must have the full story!

FairPhyllis · 16/04/2013 20:04

Greenkit OP had not one but two cats go missing at around the same time. So what are the odds the other one is stashed in the neighbours' house too ... ?

Been following this thread.

Also wondering what excuse the neighbours will come up with.

Great that your kitty is back where she belongs but where is the other one?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/04/2013 20:16

So glad you have your pet back.

Feeling really emotional. She's curled up on the sofa, purring her little head off!!

The policeman and the man next door brought her back and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her in her box. The policeman acted as a mediator between us and we came to the conclusion that if she wanted to say hello then she can - just don't shut her in! The bloke next door was a bit upset which is understandable and I couldn't stop crying!!!

There is absoloutely tons and tons of fluff flying around from her - never known that with her or any of my cats in my life. Her eyes were right dirty but apart from that she seems to be in tip top shape.

She recognised us straight away and came and curled straight up in our arms. She's now got to reconnect with our two other cats who she hasn't seen in almost a year!!

I did mention my little boy cat to the cop but he didn't see him there and we've got no proof and they haven't exactly got a warrant to search the place (though I bet he'd be found if they did!) so god knows if we'll ever see him again. But I'm still so over the moon to be back with my little cat who I thought was dead!

Thank you so much mumsnetters! This was my first ever post - all though I did like having a nosey at the 'aibu' posts! - and you've all been so helpful and supportive so it certainly wont be my last!

Right'o, I'm getting back to my lovely little pud!

Lots of love!!!
