SPOILER DO NOT READ IF YOU Don't want to know what happens in last book so far

Am sulking cos they killed off JS! How could he? Don't know what he was thinking! So haven't watched series 2 or 3 yet. Just can't get excited anymore

I don't want Jon to be a wolf, one can't fancy a wolf.

neriberi · 11/04/2013 12:10

I'm uber curious as to role that Bran plays in all this as well? I love his character in the books and also what happens to Arya? Once her sight comes back does she come back into the story proper again?

badtime · 11/04/2013 12:11

He's. like, 15 in the books!

Velve · 11/04/2013 12:47

I learned long ago to give up the notion of "favourite character" in the books. GRRM likes to either kill them all off or turn them into arseholes.
Mind you, that's what I really love about the books.
The best death by far, for me, was Tywin Lannister. I was a huge fan of the character in the books, actually, because he was a constant. He was unrelentlessly unpleasant while being totally sane, and I liked that.
Can't wait for the next book. But he'll probably keep us waiting again. Hopefully not as long as last time, though, as the tv series is so popular and fast paced.

I always feel a bit sorry for the newsreader when I read the books.

Xiaoxiong · 11/04/2013 14:47

Stokes the problem is not so much that he kills off loads of main characters. It's that he introduces someone and lavishes loads of attention on them, so you start getting to know them, committing details to memory, and then 5 pages later they're offed. In retrospect, they're a very minor character, but you don't know that when they're introduced so there's a constant drumbeat of introduction of character -> extensive description -> they do something not terribly pivotal to the story -> bloody gory death description.

I agree with you LaQueen we need a Jienne/Braime situation.

I haven't read the books far too lazy Blush

I also wonder whats this awful thing that happens to the whores?.

I'm with worriedmummy, I read all the books but totally missed the JS parentage thing. Can someone please point out the bit that explained/hinted?

mamapants · 11/04/2013 15:27

Is it true that no POV characters have snuffed it since Ned? I feel it can't be true but can't think of any and don't have the books to check.

Laqueen I also find it disturbing that I love jamie lannister. Hated him to start with. And now it seems I have forgiven all and think he's a bit of a hero.

No that's not true mama pants.

hairtearing · 11/04/2013 15:40

Jaime is good looking in a disney prince sort of way he reminds me a RL John Smith.
I wonder that too as he has the morals of an alley cat, but the episode when Cersei told Sansa about her labours and how he demanded to be present for each one made me warn to him a bit.

OzmaofOz · 11/04/2013 15:41

Yes and I quite like Jaime too, he redeems himself in the books and becomes quite likeable.

MissBeehivingUnderTheMistletoe · 11/04/2013 17:03

Even more disturbingly, I prefer Jaime when he's grubby

MadamFolly · 11/04/2013 17:21

It hasn't been explained pope its speculation but based upon certain facts like Ned never saying who his mother was, it was said that Ned made Lyanna a promise on her 'bed of blood' while she lay dying... to look after her baby? Also we used to think Rhaegar was evil and kidnapped Lyanna but actually it was Robert who thought that and not necessarily the truth. Rhaegar was meant to be really good, strong and beautiful, easy for a girl like Lyanna to run away and become his mistress, he was in an arranged marriage so he could have loved her.

MadamFolly · 11/04/2013 17:21

Also Jaime looks like Prince Charming in Shrek.

CheerfulYank · 11/04/2013 17:26

If you Google it there are all sorts of Rhaegar/Lyanna conspiracies out there. :) Which would make Dany Jon's aunt, eh?

Is there anyone left alive now who'd know Jon's true parentage if that were the case?

I'm meh on Jaime. Then actor's hot but he's just as bad As Cersei IMO, and everyone forgives him and despises her. Though he is kinder to Tyrion, and oh how I love Tyrion.

OzmaofOz · 11/04/2013 18:00

Howland Reed would know cheerfull, hopefully we will meet him soon.
I think Cersei has grown on me too, that's what's so good aout the series - there are no bad guys.

popebenedictsp45 · 11/04/2013 18:02

Ah, thanks Madam. I must admit I did a bit of skim reading with the last two or three books, I felt the momentum really dropped and some of the storylines got a bit dull.

Really looking forward to the next book. C'mon George!

And I disgreeabout Cersei not being a bad guy, she's bad to the bloody bone!

FuntimeFuschia · 11/04/2013 18:03

I don't think Eddard is dead. I think he is a Warg and jumped into a birds body when he was offed by gobshite Joffrey. And I was even more convinced when in the tv show he very pointedly LOOKS AT SOME BIRDS just before he gets executed :)

I have never got over his death. Nearly stopped reading it and had to stop for a few days after the Red Wedding

expatinscotland · 11/04/2013 18:04

YY, Howland Reed's the only other one who could possibly know. He may have told his son and daughter.

OzmaofOz · 11/04/2013 18:05

I like that theory Funtime, I also wonder if Mormonts Raven is anyone. Maybe Benjen...

twinkbat · 11/04/2013 18:05

Official comment from George when asked why was " oh so you think he's dead do you"

I reckon he's aziz whatever that melissandre thinks stannis is and he won't actually die, as there's stuff about how and when that match the prophesy as to how he would be reborn.

Aegon defo a fake, but I reckon tyrion isn't tywins & aerys raped his mother so he's Danny's brother. There's a few hints
