AIBU to really dislike the fact that almost everyone now uses 'it's like' or 'it was like', instead of 'it's as if, or 'it's as though"? Are we all too lazy to 'speak proper' any more??

I work with young people and have two teenagers, and I've got used to it now.

What I hate more is people who should know better (MPs who have been to Eton, fgs), who say, "It's about making work pay and rewarding hard working families."

Surely only something like a story or a news article can be about something? Does that make sense?

I say it constantly.

AND I say "and then I was like "what?" and she was like "no way" and I was like "it's like you don't, like, understand.""

AND part of my degree was linguistics.

So I give you a great big thumbs down.

It's just like... A place holder... But less annoying than 'ummm' or 'ermmmm'
