To think Andrew Wakefield has blood on his hands for causing so much distrust over the MMR?

That's it really. He's caused so much damage with his stupid little study. It was years ago, he was struck off, the study was discredited, but people still don't get the MMR because of it. Angry

Here's an example from India although it seems to be a blog so might not be a favoured source (although a times of India blog? Not sure)

here's a report from the Times of India about a post measles vaccinatuon death. Interesting comment as well from a sociological perspective.

Discussions about vaccine safety aren't confined to the leafy suburbs of England. It's actually interesting to read reports from around the world. I was surprised at how many negative comments there were tbh

seeker · 08/04/2013 08:51

There's ignorance and crap journalism all over the world...

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 09:08

That wasn't my point. My interest is in parent quotes (and a quick google will find you many). You will find that vaccine reactions piss people off wherever they live & that there's a (perhaps surprising in our eyes) suspicion of modern medicine in many parts of the developing world. The idea that developing nations are full of people desperately waiting for the kind fathers of the west to teach them in the ways of their medicine doesn't actually stack up if you read local reports or talk to people who have worked there.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 09:09

saintly a parent quoted as saying 'what are they giving our children in these shots?' is hardly evidence for anything at all other than a parent wanting info is it? It's hardly the quote of the century is it really?

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 09:11

Cote the way you refer to 'other women' is pretty horrible and then the 'my little babies' bit is pukeworthy. Grow up and take responsibility for the lives you are putting at risk.

Cherriesarered · 08/04/2013 09:12

Where is the actual evidence? Actual scientific evidence establishing a causal link between MMR and autism. There is none. You cannot post one peer reviewed article that stands up to scrutiny.

In some parts of Africa, men believe the way to cure AIDS is to sleep with a virgin. Just because people think that something causes an illness doesn't actually mean that it does.

Cherriesarered · 08/04/2013 09:15

If we all relied on what people think causes or cures we would still be wandering around with nosegays to prevent plague and using leeches to cure gout!

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 09:19

No evidence, just hearsay and internet warriors spreading their ignorance and putting children at risk. And people believe it until an outbreak occurs and then they are desperate to get vaccinated as seen in Wales and the NE at the moment - funny how their vaccination fears evaporate in the face of real threat isn't it?

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 09:21

And again cherries and countrykitten that wasn't my point. I was disagreeing with the idea that everyone in the developing world is desperate for a vaccination and making the point that this discussion isn't a luxury - it's held world over.

This is recent paper looking at reasons for low immunisation rates in sub Saharan Aftica. Note that a high number are unimmunised in urban areas - rather confirming that people aren't stampeding to take up available vaccinations.

I'm not making any judgement at all on their decisions. Just pointing out that there are plenty of vaccine refusers in developing nations.

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 09:23

I know lots of unvaccinated children & don't know any who have booked in for a vaccination during the current outbreak. The report on the BBC said most were toddlers so maybe they were only a few weeks overdue due to illness at the time or something.

Cherriesarered · 08/04/2013 09:26

Where's the evidence linking autism and MMR?

Cherriesarered · 08/04/2013 09:28

The special clinics in South Wales were 50 per cent over scribed last week. People were queuing to be vaccinated!

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 09:32

What do you think happened to the children I know who were developing normally, who ended up post MMR in HDU/ICU then regressed? The ones whose doctors have said they think MMR contributed?

Or more relevantly to me what do you think happened to my son - and what do you think that means for his siblings?

And which type of autism are you talking about? I find questions about MMR and 'autism' a bit pointless when there's no such thing as 'autism'. Define the subgroup.

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 09:33

I didn't say people weren't queuing to be vaccinated - I said the bbc said most were toddlers so may not have been late anyway. Some in the pictures looked too young for a jab.

RubyGates · 08/04/2013 09:34

So the standard response to the OMG! I haven't vaccinated my child is to go and stand in a queue with lots of other unvaccinated children in a place with an epidemic?

Can anyone else see the problem with this?

CoteDAzur · 08/04/2013 09:35

countrykitten - "the way you refer to 'other women' is pretty horrible and then the 'my little babies' bit is pukeworthy."

"Pukeworthy", no less Hmm This post makes you look like a rude, ignorant moron, which I assume wasn't your intention. Maybe read the post I was replying to next time, because I was quoting Northern who said: "doesn't give a damn about the effect of spreading rubella on other women's babies". All I did was follow the thought of my babies vs other women's babies. I'm sorry reading the word "babies" made you vomit your breakfast all over yourself Hmm

"take responsibility for the lives you are putting at risk."

Why on earth would I take responsibility for people who are not my responsibility? Women old enough to want to raise a baby are responsible for their own health.

As I said many times before on this thread, my primary responsibility is to my own children and they will be injected only when it is in their interest to be vaccinated. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, because there is nada you can do about it.

VenusRising · 08/04/2013 09:37

Yes, I think he has blood on his hands.

He lied, and has led people astray with catastrophic consequences.
He's culpable, as he did it knowingly.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 09:57

Cote no - YOU have just shown how ignorant YOU are in using the offensive term 'moron'. True colours now?

People like you really do make me sick - you refuse to show any social responsibility at all and yet rely on everyone else to vaccinate their children so that your precious 'little babies' are protected by herd immunity. It is absolutely disgraceful and you should be bloody well ashamed so do not get on your high horse because you are absolutely not occupying the moral high ground here at all.

saintlyjimjams · 08/04/2013 10:04

Country kitten have you read cotes posts or just failed to understand them? She's not expecting others to protect her children at all.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 10:07

She refuses to vaccinate.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 10:07

And she uses offensive language.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 10:08

And yes I have read the whole thread.

SneezingwakestheJesus · 08/04/2013 10:10

She explained in a detailed way why she doesn't vaccinate. Not one part of it relied in herd immunity.

countrykitten · 08/04/2013 10:14

She is putting pregnant women at risk - that's ok then?

currentbuns · 08/04/2013 10:16

I think most would agree that Cote is coming across spectacularly badly here.
