to want to take the bedding back that my DH bought?

I mentioned to my DH that I had ordered some bedding but wouldn't be delivered for a few weeks as it is currently out of stock.

I went out today with the kids and on my return he surprised me with a new duvet set that he had put on the bed.

Lovely idea, but it's not something that I would of chosen. Every time I walk in the bedroom I think I wish we had a different one.

He has the hump with me a bit as I told him that I didn't like it and I hate the colour - it's a bit orangey. He went to work and left it on the bed.

Now I know I am being ungrateful and probably should of been a bit more tactful but do I leave it and live with it or should I change it for something else?

Leave it. How much time do you spend staring at a duvet cover? Confused

HollyBerryBush · 29/03/2013 21:18

Turn the lights out - you wont see it when you are asleep.

ditavonteesed · 29/03/2013 21:20

will it grow on you, he did a nice thing but I do see your point.

Ruprekt · 29/03/2013 21:21

Live with it.

HE likes it and was trying to do something nice for you.

countrykitten · 29/03/2013 21:22

He did do a lovely thing but orange....not good. I only have white/cream and nothing else so it would drive me nuts. However - in the interests of keeping the peace and all that....Smile

CajaDeLaMemoria · 29/03/2013 21:22

You might struggle to take back bedding that has been opened, and put on the bed. It couldn't be resold for hygiene reasons.

Regardless, he bought bedding that he thought you'd like, and put in on the bed. It'd be a proper kick in the face to take it back. Leave it, and swap it for yours when it arrives. Eventually it'll just remind you of him being sweet.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2013 21:25

My DH said I could choose the duvet cover (we bought a new bed) because he doesn't spend as much time in bed as I do (cheeky fecker)

But I wouldn't buy something he didn't like Hmm

Can you buy a nice throw to put over the top.And just remove it when you go to sleep?

aldiwhore · 29/03/2013 21:29

YANBU.

I left my our bed in arty swishy go with anything colours, returned to find new BROWN bedding. DH will not learn. It's already gone.

When I met him he had a penchant for buying covers that looked like the Serengeti on acid or a carefully dissected Zebra, that has yellowed slightly in the sun... which is okay, but not really in keeping with his Welsh roots. (Though a dragon would have been equally unacceptable).

I'm not precious (honest) but I don't like tones of yellow/dead zebra.

Rocksie · 29/03/2013 21:41

Thank you, I think I was being (partially) unreasonable! In the grand scheme of things.....

I think I'll keep the peace and live with it - until my new one is delivered :)

Why don't men learn to leave the decor to us!

Maybe he has the same feelings about what you choose? :o

startwig1982 · 29/03/2013 21:51

Yabu. He's done a nice thing and you're being a bit ungrateful. You don't have to look at it that much. Maybe keep it as a guest duvet set/spare set if you're that bothered.

Rocksie · 29/03/2013 22:03

I agree I was being unreasonable and I'm sure he feels the same about the things I choose although I do usually ask his opinion first.

Hopefully he'll be happy when he sees it still on the bed.

Thanks for all your opinions sometimes it good to hear what others have to say x

It was his choice and he likes it, its not all about what you want. He sounds very thoughtful. No wonder he had the hump he is probably disappointed. I have things in the house I wouldn't have chosen but they have been chosen by someone I love so it makes it ok.

treas · 29/03/2013 22:08

Isn't it his bedroom too? Surely you can live with it until the next laundry wash - on the positive side bet your bedding will get changed more frequently nowGrin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2013 22:40

Eurgh Rocksie did he put it straight on the bed out of the packet without washing it first?

If so then he is definately BU.
It will be all stiff and have that new bedding smell [bushock]

If I had small children I would 'invite' them in for a cuddle for they could dribble or leak on it.

OkayHazel · 30/03/2013 01:24

Accidentally burn it with the iron?

Ericaequites · 30/03/2013 01:30

When my brother left his wife, he bought chartreuse sheets and duvet cover. For Christmas, I made him a navy, red, and white quilt. My sister bought him white sheets piped in red.
My DH had a purple and olive duvet before he met me. I made a cover for it after we had dated a few months.
Most straight men should not be trusted in the soft furnishings or bed/bath departments...

yabu. He has chosen something that he likes, surely his opinion counts for something?

Not only that he has made a thoughtful gesture & you have basically dismissed it. Why would he bother to make such an effort again?

When your bedding arrives you can always swap it out.

ComposHat · 30/03/2013 02:24

Who made you the bedding Nazi? Do you ever consult him about the colour of the bedding? He might find your rigid insistence on cream and white to be dull.

Tortington · 30/03/2013 02:25

i call godwin on compo

there should be a linky law

if you want an opinion - provide a linky woman!

CSIJanner · 30/03/2013 04:27

You could use it as the spare set for when the cat sicks up a hair ball, the tea gets spilt or the LO's have an accident on your bed. But you should still use it as he did try to help and its his home too.

Would it help if you thought of the orange as sun shiney cheer?

maddening · 30/03/2013 08:18

Get a throw

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 30/03/2013 08:21

YANBU

Purchases like bedding should be discussed beforehand.

carabos · 30/03/2013 08:31

Just use it a lot for a few weeks and then gradually retire it, he won't notice. Men are all about immediate validation and short attention spans for stuff like that. He didn't choose it cos he likes it, he chose it to do a nice thing.
