I came over all frothy in the park earlier when this guy walking 2 big lassie dogs - on leads- let one of them do a massive poo, 2 yards from his feet, on the grass where loads of kids play, then went to walk off.

I just got really mad and stopped and looked at him, then when he went to walk away said "Excuse me, please tell me you're not going to leave that there?"

He mumbled something about waiting for the other dog - so I stood and waited. He then mumbled that he didn't have any bags.

So I (v loudly) said "so you're just going to leave it for kids to step in? That's disgusting- you should be ashamed of yourself. "
I am Blush
There was football going on so people were looking, but I was just so grrrr about it. What an arse. I had DS with me (I was carrying him at the time) so didn't want to frighten him, but couldn't walk past and not say anything.

OP- YANBU and totally in the right. The vast majority of dog owners are responsible and considerate, but a small minority are making a lot of people anti-dog and anti-dog owner by leaving dog shit everywhere.

It is a pet hate if mine and makes my blood boil.

The problem is, the council can have fines in place all they like, but how in hell are they going to police it? It's almost impossible to implement.

There are two ways you can solve it:

  1. make a social pariah out of anyone who doesn't pick up as the OP did. However, many people walk dogs in quite areas or at night so this won't always work.

  2. have all dogs registered and somehow get their doggie DNA or similar form every poo not picked up and fine the owner. However this won't work because it will cost a lot. Maybe we could just TELL useless dog owners that this CAN be done i.e start an urban myth, and then maybe, they will actually be scared of the unenforceable fine.

  3. I'm still thinking of a third, but making the owner eat is top of my list.

And finally I would like to say an enormous thank you to every owner on this thread who picks up. Not only are you making public spaces cleaner and easier for everyone to walk around in, but every time you pick up, you are setting an example to other dog owners, and making it look like the "norm".

serin · 24/03/2013 18:28

Coffenowplease? I thought the story about the lady putting dog mess in someones hood was the poo troll?

pigletmania · 24/03/2013 18:39

Yanbu at all well done you Smile, dirty fecker. I wanted to do that to someone who left their nasty dog turd on our drive for me to clear up yesterday Angry. I also wanted to do that to the dirty bastard who left a horrid dog turd in the park for my dd 5 (ASD) to pick up Angry.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/03/2013 18:50

I'd take a photo of anyone doing this and pass it onto the dog warden or pcso. Pcso in our village has stopped me and asked me if I know who lets their dog shit all over the place so they do seem to take an interest.

bigredtractor · 24/03/2013 20:57

I did wonder about taking a pic of him on my phone but was wary of antagonising him I guess. But im going to follow up with an email to our local councillor I think- sure he's not the only one but I bet its a few repeat offenders that never pick up.

I dont even know if we've got dog wardens- certainly never see any.

I work for local council and our Environmental Wardens patrol parks etc and fine people on the spot. £50 fine and they will target areas if you contact them to complain about specific repeat offenders. They wear stab vests etc so are very conspicuous, which also acts as a deterrent. They go in pairs as law says 2 people must witness owner failing to pick up the poo. The 2 witnesses can be anyone, if you feel like reporting anyone. The downside is that you'd need to know who the offender was, or at least where they lived, before you could report someone.

When my DD had just started toddling, I took her out for a walk, and she was touching everything, as they do. Before I realised what it was, she reached down into some grass and her little fingers were covered with dog poo Sad Angry If I had seen that dog owner at that moment, he/she would have seriously had a telling off from me Angry sooooo disgusting.

I have a dog, and would NEVER take her out without poo bags, it's just so disrespectful to others. I would definitely call someone on it if I saw them leaving poo behind.

YANBU.

I've offered nappy bags (I have small children, not dogs) to offenders, "oh, run out of bags, I have a spare nappy bag." I try not to sound accusing, trying not to set anyone off with my children there. I've sometimes then said, carefully, "you know, dog poo can make people go blind and children are very vulnerable to that". I've had reactions of shame, embarrassment and "really, didn't know that, I'll be more careful". I've also had "Any chance I can have a couple more bags please for the rest of the walk?"
