On Facebook that is?

My DP started a new job and was meant to ne paid last Friday, of course the company messed this up and now nearly a week later they have finally said that he will get paid Tuesday, a week and half late.
We have rent due, bugger all food and absolutely nothing until he gets paid so we are not happy.

I posted on Facebook that I was fucked off that company have messed up and ranting about how we are meant to get by, the next thing I know DPs boss phone's bollocking him for allowing me to post this on my private profile.

I know now how they know about it a friend of mine also works for the said company and went running to boss man, she has been deleted.

I removed it to save hassle but AIBU to think WTF I can post what the hell I like on my profile and it shouldn't affect DPs job end of the day he isn't myboss and if ththey don't want me making the company look bad then they should bloody pay him on time not a week and a half late?

TantrumsAndBalloons · 21/03/2013 12:15

Why on earth would you want the whole of bloody facebook to know you cant pay your rent??

Dont people have any dignity any more?

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:15

Also have a bit of sympathy OP..for not having any food money

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:16

Presumably she has her friends on facebook and isnt ashamed of being skint through no fault of her own

VonHerrBurton · 21/03/2013 12:16

On the one occasion a wage payment of mine was delayed, my mortgage payment was unfulfilled, as were several standing orders. I called my head office who apologised and sent me some money immediately and met all charges the bank had made to me.

I was pissed off, sure, but slagging my company off IN PUBLIC would have had me sacked. Why did you put it all over fb? How did it help you?

Seriously childish.

If DP had wrote it then if he got sacked fair enough but for him to get a bollocking for my actions were uncalled for, he isn't responsible for my Facebook posts.

I wrote it on Facebook as I am annoyed that a company can treat staff like this and its more of a why bother working of you're not getting paid.
As far as I am aware that was abolished with slave labour and why should I be positive about a company like this if it stops one of my friends spending money there whilst staff aren't being paid then I am happy.

He has been chasing payment for over a week and it hasn't arrived, without it we have nothing and would have been better staying on benefits as at least I wouldn't be worrying about feeding my family.

I have no rl friends or family close to talk to so use Facebook as a way of communication, if you don't like Facebook then thats not the point.

I am not ashamed of being skint when its through no fault of my own.

Fakebook · 21/03/2013 12:35

OP, why doesn't your DH just resign? Hmm. A few things em

Fakebook · 21/03/2013 12:36

Pressed too soon...

A few things employers like to see in staff is loyalty, honesty and integrity. Making the type of comments you are, isn't very loyal is it? Why should they employ someone who's partner is going to bad mouth their business all over Facebook?

MiniTheMinx · 21/03/2013 12:37

"memo last Friday reminding us that "naming the company, colleagues or clients in a derogatory way on social media such as (but not limited to) Facebook or Twitter, is a disciplinary matter"

Companies pay so much for advertising, so much in legal fees to protect their reputations and we also have a revolving door btw politics and business, lack of democracy at the political level, falling wages and the erosion of workers rights...................of course they NEED us to to shut up and not talk to each other. This divide and conquer is an extension of the union bashing that went before.

I maintain that people need to talk and we need honesty, if we lack dignity it is because of falling wages and the removal of rights, not because a few brave people are willing to stick their heads above the parapet.

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:38

Yes its so easy just to resign and live on nothing Hmm

Stop laying into the OP. Are you her employer?

Or just feeling grumpy and think giving her a kicking will make you feel better?

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:39

My last post was x posted..it was to Fakebook

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:39

I agree mini

Pandemoniaa · 21/03/2013 12:40

I have no rl friends or family close to talk to so use Facebook as a way of communication, if you don't like Facebook then thats not the point.

Whether or not you like FB isn't the point. But equally, you asked if your particular post on FB was unreasonable and in the circumstances it is. Because this sort of comment on FB will always end badly and in this case, it is U for your rant to jeopardise someone else's job.

Better to explore the whole issue of your dp being asked to sign a contract that he has valid reasons not to understand. Because that's something constructive he can take forwards and hopefully get a more positive result from. Unlike your FB post.

I have no time for exploitative employers and think that zero contracts are appalling, in the main. I have friends who honestly thought they had found jobs only to discover that they were now firmly in the poverty trap when they realised what zero hours actually meant. It's an insidious way of allegedly "employing" people. But there are much better ways to expose these practices than personal rants on FB.

OwnedByACockerSpaniel · 21/03/2013 12:42

Why did you ask "am I being unreasonable?" if your not going to accept the answers Hmm

as far as you are cooncerened you are not, although the vast majority have said you are, you are unwilling to accept the answer. Seem sort of futile to have asked the AIBU question IMO.

MiniTheMinx · 21/03/2013 12:43

I am not ashamed of being skint when its through no fault of my own

see, that is what its all about, this isn't lack of dignity, this is honesty and we all need to be having an honest discussion about why workers like OPs partner are being treated in this way, because this scenario awaits many of us if we don't get together and fight for our rights.

I think you are very brave OP and I hope the situation soon improves for you and your family.

Fakebook · 21/03/2013 12:44

Fab, she's mentioned upthread that they'd be better off if he was sacked so he could get a "proper" job. So why wait around for a dismissal?

DrHolmes · 21/03/2013 12:46

If you want to post what you like you must make sure your whole profile is private and that "friends of friends" also cannot see.
You also have to make sure your friends are actually true friends!
I wouldn't advise slagging off a company your husband/family/friends work for though as it can get them into trouble.

PureQuintessence · 21/03/2013 12:46

You were slagging off his work place on Facebook. You need to grow up. You are lucky he were not sacked.

If he were not working, you really would not have any money.

How come you have 5 kids if you cannot feed them? How about you finding a job? Would not have so much time to rant on Facebook then.

FabOeufsFromLaChocolateries · 21/03/2013 12:47

You don't get anything for resigning.

I don't know why anyone ever posts in AIBU for support

TantrumsAndBalloons · 21/03/2013 12:47

Obviously they would be worse off if he resigned as he wouldn't be able to claim benefits straight away.

SPBInDisguise · 21/03/2013 12:47

Your Dh would not be better off sacked - if that really is the case he should resign.

However I don't think you did wrong. Your comments were in no way publicall connected to that company. So they are over reacting because they can.

SPBInDisguise · 21/03/2013 12:49

Thought you also didn't get them for being sacked too?
If he really would be ok to be sacked why can't he just get another job right now, and next time he gets work at this place, just not tun up, or call in sick?

MiniTheMinx · 21/03/2013 12:51

"How come you have 5 kids if you cannot feed them? How about you finding a job? Would not have so much time to rant on Facebook then"

Wow, I guess that is where 30 years of neo-liberal right wing dogma and propaganda gets you Sad

PureQuintessence if you spent less time attacking other working people on MN you would have more time to read the Daily Mail. Here have a Biscuit

TantrumsAndBalloons · 21/03/2013 12:55

I think I am slightly confused.

So, you didn't name the company? There's no mention or connection to the company in any way on your posts?

Because whilst I think it's utterly amazing that people post things like this on FB, if you didn't make any mention to your partner or the place he works then what's the issue?

I honestly think this is why people need to understand about using FB in an adult, appropriate way. You can't plaster the tiny details of your life for everyone to see.

I don't have Facebook, if I wanted a FB account I would have to use a different name, the company I work for do not allow Facebook pages with our real names on them in case people put up stupid status and drunken photos and our clients see it.
Because they do search for people on FB to see who they are dealing with.
Employers check FB pages before offering jobs.

I don't understand why people don't get that if you are putting all this stuff up people will see it
