To think fine hair can look perfectly lovely

Women on MN often bemoan their fine hair. Dd has fine hair and I think it's rather gorgeous. Instead of wasting money on volumising products that don't work, take a look at celebs who make their fine hair look gorgeous unlike celebs like Cheryl Cole, Victoria Beckham and that Kardashian woman with their awful extensions.

OP, please tell me you're not Samantha Brick. I have never ever known anyone to comment on her as anything other than the embodiment of all that is awful.

willyoulistentome · 19/03/2013 22:52

Yep fine hair sucks. If I was like my brothers and male cousins of a certain age I could just go for a 'Grant
/Phil Mitchell' and it would be easy. Pencil ponytail here too. At least I have really dark hair still , no grey hairs yet at almost 46. Small mercies.

Bogeyface · 19/03/2013 22:53

I have fine, thin hair and it sucks big hairy balls.

Just to clarify them - I have fine THIN hair.

Mintyy · 19/03/2013 23:00

I used to have fine hair and tons of it, until I hit the menopause. Now its just fine hair Sad.

willyoulistentome · 19/03/2013 23:03

Actually mine was fine but normal thickness before kids. After 2 kids its now just crap and if I was a bloke I would get the clippers out and be done with it.

KurriKurri · 19/03/2013 23:06

My DD has long very curly hair, today she came home from work and shouted 'help mum, it rained on the way home, and I've gone the full Brian May' Grin

FourEyesGood · 19/03/2013 23:06

Fine thin hair here too. It's shit. Always has been. It looks awful long (pencil ponytail up; straggly down) so I have a chin-length bob, which is the least versatile hairdo in existence. Whinge, whinge, whinge. Grin

difficultday · 19/03/2013 23:08

Keira knightley has lovely fine brunette hair, but she does have exquisite bone structure.

LadyBeagleEyes · 19/03/2013 23:09

I have fine hair and not lots of it either.
I've never been able to grow it long as it looks like rats tails.
But I have been told how lovely and soft and silky it is, by previous partners and also nurses in hospital taking my temperature.
So basically it feels nice but looks crap.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/03/2013 23:13

Agree with it sucking big hairy balls (my new fave phrase)

I have grown it long but I still have that shit, thin ponytail. I Babylyss it's ass off and it's still crap.

I'm considering a Ken Paves 'piece' from QVC - frankly someone needs to stop me

freddiefrog · 19/03/2013 23:21

I've got fine hair too, and not a lot of it. I hate it. I went grey in my early twenties too

It's all wispy and scraggy when it gets too long, and will not hold a style unless I hair-spray the crap out of it. I dream for long luscious wavy locks.

Lots of hair dye, and expensive products involved or I look like a witch. My Babylis Big Hair just gave me newsreaders hair

MoYerBoat · 19/03/2013 23:48

Another fine haired celeb - Cate blanchett

I've also got very fine hair - what I want to do when it's manky is shove a wig on it, but have never got round to shopping for one. Is it a bonkers idea?

sashh · 20/03/2013 03:07

I have fine hair, but quite a lot of it. I don't care about the thin pony tail.

It takes me about 3 years to grow long enough to donate to The Little Princess trust.

The MNer who said it looks great on a child - well donate it to a child. Pics of before and after on my profile.

ThisIsMummyPig · 20/03/2013 03:14

You see, I would love to do the little princesses thing, and have taken stuff from their website to my hair dressers so that they were aware, but three years of long, scraggy fine hair is just more than I can bear.

I'm afraid mine is in a short bob, which can occassionally look smart. (I do have quite a lot of fine hair though)

nooka · 20/03/2013 03:17

I've got fine hair, but I don't look at slebs, so I've no idea if they have fine hair or not nor do I really care. None of them are really 'real' in any case. My hairdresser can make my hair do all sorts of things, so I imagine the fine haired slebs have also been well worked over.

My hair looks best very short, although I've got it long right now. It looks good enough, although it is a bit weird when I put in a tiny bunch. I tend to use big scrunchies to reduce the pencil look.

LazyMachine · 20/03/2013 03:30

Reese Witherspoon has ridiculously thick hair - the individual strands may be fine, but there are loads of them!

OkayHazel · 20/03/2013 03:40

My fine hair looks fabulous, and then i step outside and it falls flat and clings to my face. Mare.

ohmyrainydays · 20/03/2013 08:51

I used to long for thin, fine hair when i was younger and straightners hadn't been invented. I have a massive amount of thick curly hair. I have embraced the curls now but spent many an hour longing for straight thin hair. I used to wish i didn't wake up every morning looking like hagrid. I started going grey at 26 and now at 31 i have so much grey i have to dye it all the time.I think we always wish for what we don't have.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 20/03/2013 09:00

I have five hair. It's ok, because it's straight, so I just don't brush it and that reduces the frizz/general inability to hold in any style.

Poor DD has fine wavy curls and it looks awful most of the time, despite conditioner and not brushing. Really frizzy and doesn't clump into the curls properly. Would love to know how to make it look nice.

I too have shite, fine hair. It doesn't matter one jot to me which celebrities look lovely with fine hair, cos they can still afford a daily stylist and on the maternity pay I'm on, I'll be lucky if my budget stretches to a decent shampoo! Hmm
