to feel hurt that my friend avoids lifts as she hates my car?

My friend can be quite snobby at times ... we have been friends since childhood and it's just one of her little quirks.

Such as when I bought my first house I asked her if she would like to stay over and she said yes only if it was clean.

Anyway we meet up once/twice a month and have always taken it in turns to be the one who drives. She has been given a new company car (a few months ago now) and it's a nice car - much nice than mine anyway.

I have noticed that since she got it she has always turned down my offer of driving when it's my turn.

Such as I'll say - pick you up at 8 and she'll text back saying no don't worry I'll drive.

Or if I insist that it's only fair if I drive this time, she'll say I've got really bad car sickness and I only feel ok if I'm driving.

I've known her 20years+ and she has never complained about having car sickness before.

Her car is nice and mine is a very boring practical estate car but I just feel a bit hurt and embarrassed that it's not good enough for her.

I prefer to drive, maybe she does?

I only avoid lifts from one friend, but that's because her car is basically a rubbish tip. It smells terrible and you wouldn't sit on a seat without having a plastic bag between your arse and the upholstery.

Personally I'd be delighted if this happened to me, as I could then drink everytime we went out!!Grin Plus she has to pay for the petrol too.

TheCraicDealer · 12/03/2013 23:05

Seems like it might be just the novelty of her new car. She still sounds like a cock though, slagging off your car after passing your test.

YANBU*

*unless you drive a barried up Corsa with a full body kit, fart cannon exhaust and a 'lower than your granny's tits' sticker in the back window. Then YABU.

Ask her what the problem is.....

HouseOfBears · 13/03/2013 05:15

Try to look at your car with outsiders eyes,e.g. do you have dogs that might make your car hairy/smelly? I never notice when mine is getting messy until I give someone a lift and think "oops, really time for a hoover in here" Blush.

Or maybe she does simply prefer driving!

LovesBeingWokenEveryNight · 13/03/2013 05:20

Funny how it was good enough before. If you really can get past this sort of behavior then just let her (or ask her)

exoticfruits · 13/03/2013 06:50

I don't particularly like to be the one to drive so it would be quite pleased to let her do it all.

Whoknowswhocares · 13/03/2013 07:34

Maybe she's trying to do you a favour? Perhaps she doesn't have to pay petrol costs and views it therefore as free transport for you both?
If she's a good friend in other ways, I'd let it go and enjoy the chauffeur service

TheKelda · 13/03/2013 07:51

I'm a really bad passenger, I much prefer to drive otherwise I end up braking for the driver and holding the door handle.

Could it be something like that?
