We asked dd1 what they were being told at school (catholic school). She said 'they put on the daily news 'pope resigned', that was all'. Presumably at some point in the next week they will put 'new pope'. The 'daily news' is stuff they write on the board, like 'canteen shut' or 'basketball team meet at 5pm'.
In my naïveté I had assumed they might make something of a bigger deal of it... (I mean, they did have a spiritual retreat for the grade 8's last week...)
I am proper rolling at jojo. How cool would that be? It would be like a pg test 'is that a pink line? Paul, paul, do you think that line's pink? Can you see pink?' Here, Jeff, it's your turn. D we want Jeff to be the pope? Eyes heavenward, suck teeth. Is that white/ grey? Or black/ grey?
I'm almost disappointed that isn't what happens. Referee, have a word. We want proper spiritual intervention here.
Everyone here is rooting for the Canadian, on the grounds that he spent some time in Latin America once.
His village is apparently in consultation as to how they can maximize the tourist dollar if he's the next one up. At the moment they don't have a single cafe, pub, or restaurant, and only one tiny shop. It's a very small place. The house he was born in was demolished ages ago, and apparently the ice rink where he played hockey with religious devotion (I shit you not) also no longer exists.
They are concerned for the boredom level of potential pilgrims.
I quite fancy an ice hockey playing pope though.
