..to think that being charged DOUBLE PRICE for highlights because my hair is "too thick" is taking the piss?

My hairdressers is under new managment

The person that normally does my hair is not working Saturday any more.
So I had someone else.

All good, hair looks lovely. Go to pay....£90.

When I question why, because its normally only £45 she said my hair was "too thick"

Really? I know it did not require double the amount of time, foil or bleach.

FFS, my hair is not that thick. The way she was going on, it was like thickness of epic proportions that should be in the Record breakers book or something.

So....is that reasonable? Or taking the piss?

what a rip-off. yanbu.

browneyesblue · 09/03/2013 12:19

Taking the piss!

You should have been told beforehand if the price was going to be higher

mrsjay · 09/03/2013 12:19

sometimes my hairdressers charge more for long thick hair especially if it is a colour I think it is taking the piss tbh as hair dye should stick whatever the hair thickness

EduCated · 09/03/2013 12:19

Thy didn't tell you before they did it? If not, YANBU at all.

MountainOrMolehill · 09/03/2013 12:20

Don't go back.

I think you would have had more products on your hair than your average joe if you have thick hair. I have long, thick hair and I expect to pay a bit more as it does take longer than short hair and more product is used.

Think you probably got a good deal off the previous owners. I pay £60 for the apprentice to do mine!

JustFoldingStars · 09/03/2013 12:20

Totally taking the piss. I bet people with very fine hair don't get money off...

YANBU I think that's ridiculous!

CadleCrap · 09/03/2013 12:20

Is your hair swishy?

Perhaps they were jealous of the swishy-ness.Grin

Something should have been said during "treatment"

YANBU and they are taking the piss

MountainOrMolehill · 09/03/2013 12:20

However, I do think the price change should have been made clear to you before anything was done to your hair

gallicgirl · 09/03/2013 12:22

I thought they charged per foil?

I've always had a consultation beforehand, we discuss and agree colours and price.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 09/03/2013 12:22

Did you pay the £90?
I've never heard that before.

mrsjay · 09/03/2013 12:23

45 quid for extra tin foil though is raking the piss Grin

HollyBerryBush · 09/03/2013 12:23

I have outrageously thick hair and I've never been charged double before.

That is taking the piss to do that at the till. I'd have paid the £45 and left.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 09/03/2013 12:25

Another thick swishy hair person here and charging double is crazy.

BeeBopDingALing · 09/03/2013 12:25

If you are a regular there then there is no way I would have paid double just because it's someone different doing my hair. I would have complained and asked to see the manager. They can't just spring a double charge on you like that without telling you beforehand.

WorraLiberty · 09/03/2013 12:30

YANBU, I hope you didn't pay it?

ENormaSnob · 09/03/2013 12:31

I hope you didn't pay.

That's dreadful.

I have very thick hair too and have never been charged more.

Was the price made clear before they started?

armagh · 09/03/2013 12:31

I'd phone them and say i won't be getting my hair done there again because of their treatment of you. One customer down. And tell your friends. I hate service providers treating regular customers badly.

INeverSaidThat · 09/03/2013 12:32

I hope you didn't pay Confused

BabyMakesTheBellyGoRound · 09/03/2013 12:43

That's outrageous. Another one with thick hair here and I've never had to pay extra.

Mynewmoniker · 09/03/2013 12:45

Go back in person and speak to the manager and say, "All my friends say I shouldn't have paid it but I was in shock and did it automatically. I'd like a reimbursment of the extra as I'm considering going somewhere else in future."

It's bad PR for them if you're telling all your friends and the managere needs to have the feedback for best practice intiatives.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 09/03/2013 12:45

No, they didnt tell me the price before.

Although tbf I did not ask. I just assumed it would be the same.

No, I paid £55. On the off chance my hair was so thick it required an extra £10 worth of foil or bleach.

I just can't believe it was double

Ok, if its thicker, stick an extra tenner on or whatever but tell people that.

There's no way on earth id pay £90 for half a head of highlights.

OP posts:
TantrumsAndBalloons · 09/03/2013 12:46

Oh and I didn't have £90 I my pocket so I couldn't have paid it anyway :(

If she had told me from the start, I would have said no thanks.

AllOutOfIdeas · 09/03/2013 13:19

Surely the pricing of these things is the average cost to do the hair. So long, thick hair might need x no of foils & dye but short or fine hair will need less so the amount used balances.

Or do they give a discount for short/fine hair?

If they thought the previous owners were too generous with their pricing then they should change it, but not randomly as and when!

5madthings · 09/03/2013 13:25

Well I have very fine hair and have never had a discount.

Yanbu at all.

Takver · 09/03/2013 13:29

Well 90 quid is taking the piss, but to be fair I get charged less than the price on the board at my hairdressers (for colour or highlights) because I have very short fine hair & therefore don't need much dye/don't take long.
