to be upset/embarrassed that colleague took a photo of my receipt?

I work in a chain supermarket, but in quite a small store (30 of us work there, some just weekend staff, some morning and some evenings - but we all know each other.)

One girl (think shes about 19/20) only works at the weekends. I finished work last weekend and did my shopping, I was having a movie night and did end up buying a lot of snacks (£20ish worth)

Anyway I paid for it and went home. Came into work today and a colleague told me that the girl had taken a photo on her phone of my receipt (just of the items bought) and she had overheard her laughing and joking about it with another girl at work (roughly the same age) - the girl who didn't take the photo was daring her to put it on facebook and tag me in it (she obviously didn't though)

I am a large woman but aibu to be upset by this?

OP posts:
HairyHandedTrucker · 08/03/2013 20:02

or op forgot her receipt

phoenixrose314 · 09/03/2013 08:57

Most large supermarket chains will print out two copies of a receipt automatically - one for customer and one for store record.

fuzzpig · 09/03/2013 09:13

That is absolutely vile Angry

I really don't think you should approach her about it as she may cover her tracks. Go straight to your line manager about this. It is bullying. She did it with the intention of making fun of you.

When you bought your items, you were a customer, not 'just' a colleague - and presumably (hopefully!) she wouldn't dream of doing that to another customer as she knows it is wrong.

matchpoint · 09/03/2013 11:31

I agree that you are not being unreasonable to be upset, and I would urge you to go to your manager. This is not acceptable behaviour at work/to your colleagues.

I have to laugh at the posters on here calling her 'childish', 'weird' and saying what a 'strange thing to do'. I know/work with a lot of young people, and they take photos of anything they deem mildly amusing, post in on Facebook and wait for the likes to roll in. It's what they do, and it's really not that odd. [down with the kids]

fuzzpig · 09/03/2013 12:31

Yes, I take lots of photos of funny things too for FB (I'm 26 :o) but there is a big difference between taking photos of silly road signs etc and taking photos specifically to take the piss out of a particular person.

I don't think most young people (at least not those I know) would do the latter - and if they do, it may not be because they are young, but just because they are a nasty person :(

Floggingmolly · 09/03/2013 14:16

The colleague was intending to post the photo on Facebook and tag the op in, matchpoint. Why would anyone imagine the op would find a photocopy of her shopping receipt funny?

whiteflame · 09/03/2013 15:12

Are you sure it is true though? Do you only have the word of the colleague who told you? I wouldn't trust that, solely on the basis of there being no need to tell you. Shit stirring, even if it is the truth.

SnowyWellies · 09/03/2013 15:23

Very very strange and I would have gone ballistic.

I very rarely take my receipt, just leave it there. So anyone could do anything with mine. Also- DC 3 (aged 2) is obsessed with till receipts right now so whenever I go to Sainsbos or elsewhere I first go around the tills and self serve checkouts and pick up the discarded ones for him to collect. So I am not clear why people are Hmm about the OP's receipt being available to her colleague. There are so many reasons as to why that may have happened.

SnowyWellies · 09/03/2013 15:26

sorry, read back on the thread... only a couple of comments about how she got the receipt.

Bluelightsandsirens · 09/03/2013 15:30

Awful behaviour

marquesas · 09/03/2013 15:41

I also don't understand how the she could have taken a photo, the customer pays for the shopping and the cashier tears off the reciept and hands it over - I can't see where in this a photo could be taken a)without the customer noticing and b) in a focussed enough way for the words to be legible.

And even if this could be done how would anyone know who the reciept belonged to - OP, could you explain some more please.

And I've never been in a supermarket where there were two copies - phoenixrose -where does this happen?

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:01

Goodness!

I have been deleted for asking a pertinent question, entirely germane to the topic, AND the OP hasn't come back!

How utterly amazing.

Mintyy · 09/03/2013 17:03

You can't say nuffink no more Sad.

Mumsnet used to be much better. Perhaps I should start my own thread? Would make for a jolly Saturday night bun-fight ...

Mintyy · 09/03/2013 17:04

Own thread about how much better Mumsnet was a couple of years ago but post-moldies, that is.

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/03/2013 17:09

Now Hully, don't be disingenious Wink

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:10

go on then

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:10

I wasn't LBE, not even disingenuous

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/03/2013 17:11
Blush Pedant. How heavy are you BTW?
iloveshortshorts · 09/03/2013 17:11

marquesas- you can print duplicate reciepts so she could have given OP her receipt and printed off another one.

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:12

I am extremely heavy.

don't mess with me.

DrRanj · 09/03/2013 17:12

Horrible behaviour from hully too. Deletion well deserved. Not surprised op hasn't come back. You have made a bullied person feel even more crap about herself. Hope you're proud.

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:13

I've known loads of 19 year olds that work in busy shops that come up with bizarre and lengthy plans to photocopy bits of receipts but not the prices (odd detail).

It's very common.

Hullygully · 09/03/2013 17:14

oh drranj

you are usually such a sensible poster but that post has (forgotten the rest)

shesariver · 09/03/2013 17:21

If it continues then I would complain but it would just give her more ammunition to bully you if it looked like you went running to the boss.

And thats exactly the right attitude to make bullies thrive at work!

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/03/2013 17:24

I wonder what the £20 worth of snacks were.
