AIBU to paint my nails on the train?

No back story and a quick one.

I'm going on a long ish train journey tomorrow for a weekend away with OH.

I can't paint my nails as I have work tomorrow and nail varnish is strictly forbidden at work.

I am walking straight from work to the train station, in order to catch the earliest train to where we are going.

I want sexy, red nails for our weekend but the only opportunity will be the train journey!

Is it horrible, smelly and socially unacceptable to paint them on a train?

I'm thinking yes...

Also, I could do it in our hotel. Should have thought of that before!

"This is why we need nail bars at mainline stations."

Business venture for you?! I'd love to have my nails done while waiting for my bloody train that's always late.

50BalesOfHay · 08/03/2013 08:07

It's bad manners to do make up, hair nails etc in public. I commute and it makes me gag to see it. I usually say something if they're sitting near to me. I'd accidentally jog your elbow if you painted your nails next to me.

MrsBucketxx · 08/03/2013 08:07

I would rather use those stick on paint thingys I thing myleen class does a range.

yabu it stinks dont do it.

I had someone in pizza hut doing it the once I went over and told them to stop, not acceptable at all.

I put makeup on on the train if I have to, but I wouldn't apply nail varnish. The smell is too strong.

EauRouge · 08/03/2013 08:13

Can't you get the stick-on ones instead or do they smell too?

Meglet · 08/03/2013 08:14

Please don't. It will stink and probably piss a lot of people off.

It would make my travel sickness worse too, I need trains to have as fresh air as possible.

StuntGirl · 08/03/2013 08:17

Inconaiderate and rude.

Do it at the hotel. Or don't wear any. It's not compulsory.

StuntGirl · 08/03/2013 08:18

*inconsiderate

RatPants · 08/03/2013 08:19

I wouldn't mind at all if you did it next to me

austenozzy · 08/03/2013 08:19

Properly inconsiderate. the fumes give me a headache and it would seriously get on my tits if someone did it on the train. i can't see how anyone would think it's reasonable!

ifancyashandy · 08/03/2013 08:27

50Bales what would you say to someone putting their make up on? Nails I get (even if it wouldn't bother me) but make up being applied doesn't smell etc.

Confused
Botanica · 08/03/2013 08:28

Perhaps you could go to the bathroom on the train, paint them there so not to annoy anyone with the fumes and then let them dry whilst back at your seat?

RobinSparkles · 08/03/2013 08:28

Wouldn't bother me but I love the smell of nail polish. [odd]

RobinSparkles · 08/03/2013 08:29

Posted too soon -
But I guess YWBU to those who hate the smell/get a headache etc.

Nanny0gg · 08/03/2013 08:29

Why does anyone think it's okay to put their makeup on/do their hair/paint their nails in public?

Seriously, why?

Abra1d · 08/03/2013 08:30

YABU.

ivykaty44 · 08/03/2013 08:34

why not put make-up on and nail varnish in your bathroom at home or in the ladies powder room/ lab.

putting nail varnish on, brushing hair and applying make up in public places is gross for a number of reasons.

Whatever next - shaving your legs on the commute to work?

TinyDiamond · 08/03/2013 08:36

If I was sitting in that train carriage when I was pregnant and you did this I would've been sick allover you!

FeijoaVodkaAndCheezels · 08/03/2013 08:57

Yes, yes indeed you are VERY unreasonable to paint you nails on a train.

I recently boarded a long distance train with my family, only to be confronted by a single girl sitting at a four seater table giving herself a full manicure. No one could sit there because she had spread her stinking nail equipment across the table and the smell immediately made me feel very ill (just what I didn't need at the start of a 5 hour train trip) and I really don't want my small children having to breathe in the noxious fumes. It was bitterly cold and wet out so I couldn't open a window either.

Things like that are extremely rude and selfish.

expatinscotland · 08/03/2013 09:04

Yuck! YABU. Get those wraps or do it at the hotel - get a Rimmel 60 second varnish and Seche Vite top coat.

Sunnywithshowers · 08/03/2013 09:06

YABU. Unless you want to give someone (like me) an asthma attack.

Fakebook · 08/03/2013 09:07

Don't do it! It's anti social and rude to other commuters.

I remember watching a woman curl her eyelashes on the tube once. I kept waiting for a jolt and her pulling them all out at the root. But, alas, it never happened.

Offcolour · 08/03/2013 09:08

Don't do it. Lots of people hate the smell and get a headache. Ywbvu to inflict that on other people on a train.

MrsMaryCooper · 08/03/2013 09:13

Please don't. I love painting my nails, but the smell is horrible.

And if the train jolts a bit you will get varnish on your fingers!
