She's doing a segment about when you know your children are now grown up. A report has said that childhood now ends at 12.

Callers shared their opinions and then they read a poem and played ABBA's Slipping Through My Fingers. Sad

I did have a little lump in my throat reading that poem now, it's lovely. Didn't hear the piece but I dislike Feltz and wouldn't listen to her anyway.

limited you are on fire tonight!! Any other good goss?

Never really liked Vanessa F but I do remember (and have often quoted) a piece of hers in a a magazine many years ago. Someone had taken her to task for saying she wanted her daughters to marry lawyers and live around the corner from her. It begged the question what was wrong with her daughters earning their own money and living their own lives.

Her response was, she wanted her daughters to have a good education, their own career AND to marry lawyers and live around the corner from her. The one did not preclude the other.

I'm not often in sympathy with her (and I know people who have worked with her and have stories to tell) but I did agree on that point. My daughters were babies when I read the article but they are at university now and I'd love them to be happily settled, in good jobs, with supportive, loving partners and living around the corner from me!

Do not diss The Feltz, I LOVE HER!! Grin

I love Vanessa Feltz. I always listen to her on Radio London, and this week she's doing Jeremy Vine's show on Radio 2.

She's so eloquent and I think she has a beautiful voice; so mellifluous and self assured. I think she was annoying on TV but on radio she's really very good. I admire her verbosity, how smart and quick she is and the rapport she has with her callers, regardless of the topic.

That poem just broke my heart....beautiful.

AudrinaAdare · 07/03/2013 00:22

Oh Christ, that poem... I had a blood test last week and am in menopause apparently. I am forty one.

I took DS' pushchair to the tip yesterday too.

Waaaaaahhhhhh!

Mind you, I couldn't be on MN with Wine at this time of night if I were pregnant / had a baby, could I?

LadyPessaryPam · 07/03/2013 07:51

Audrina, commiserations but there is life after the MP so cheer up Grin

CocacolaMum · 07/03/2013 15:46

Audrina, there is always wine Grin

I agree with you Bartlebee. I bow to NO ONE in my admiration of V. I am bereft when she is away from her show.

Sorry but that DM link from up-thread has an awful lot of holes in it (holes in a DM piece - quelle surprise). She is well educated and yet hasn't heard of Yeats??? I am not asking anyone to be able to quote or name some poems but surely you should know that such a person exists?? Perhaps that girls work simply wasn't up to scratch. Well, welcome to the real world....

coatonarack · 07/03/2013 20:12

Erm.... who's Vanessa Phelps? Not Vanessa Feltz at all? In which case, yes, chuck up, chuck up.
