I'm an optician, think on naming DD Iris. Didn't make the connection until it was pointed out. What would you think of this? I'm a huge workaholic you see

Iris always reminds me of the girl in that old children's programme with the big green thing. He used to have magic beans he planted and there was an owl that used to go "twoo twoo twit twit twoo". Can't remember the name, it was greensleeves or something.

Candida, I often joked i would call a daughter this...I am a nurse, I also said if a twin, her sister would be called Malena.

I did have twins (who knew that would happen?) thankfully for them they where boys

YouTheCat · 07/03/2013 00:04

How about 'Retina'? Grin

MiniMonty · 07/03/2013 00:40

There are actually a few books on this subject:
Falling forwards by Eileen Dover.
Jump off a bridge by Hugo First.
The silent tower by Rusty bell
and the classic...
The lawn is yellow by I P Daily.

Iris is a great name - can't be abbreviated or mucked about with by other school kids, easy to say (and spell) over the phone, works in most languages easily (except maybe Japanese) and is the name of the Greek Goddess of the rainbow and of a beautiful flower. It strikes me that the part of my eye named "iris" is probably also named from the Greek - and so will your daughter be.

Wondering if the drug is orlistat (Alli).

I'm a complaints manager. Did wonder why I keep thinking about calling a future daughter Mona.

There is a child at DD's school called Amber. Her mother is a paramedic. They are both lovely but I can't help thinking Amber-lance whenever I see them Grin. Hope I haven't outed myself with that one.

I love the name Iris, it is beautiful.

FeijoaVodkaAndCheezels · 08/03/2013 19:31

Is the Christmasy December boy Noel? As in Noel is French for Christmas.

TiggyD · 08/03/2013 20:13

Iris for a baby optician? It's alright.

My first thought was what if somebody wanted to call their child 'Gynacoligia'.

Losingexcessweight · 08/03/2013 20:18

I don't particularly like the name iris, however my dd is named after a place, and not many people like her name particularly my mother!

IncrediblePhatTheInnkeepersCat · 08/03/2013 22:14

I'm a cow farmer with a son called Pat. (Perhaps)

Love the name Iris!

Also, thank you Fakebook for reminding me about Greenclaws. I used to love that programme, but had completely forgotten its existence. I could visualise it instantly from your description!
