to move to Scotland for the free University places?

I love Scotland. It's a beautiful country. Bit cold, but you can't have it all!
However, we have 3 dc's.
The way things are now, it will cost them all about 30k in student debt each to get a degree. So 90k for the three of them.
Neither of our parents helped us with the cost of our degrees and it made life very tricky in our younger days.
We'd love to help our dc's towards the cost of uni.
The eldest two are very academic and already talking about what they want to do at Uni, so I think it's pretty safe to assume they're going down that route.
We could get a bigger house for the same money up there. Would want to be about half an hour or so from Edinburgh.
Has anyone else thought of doing this?
Any thoughts?
It also occurs to me that we could move and then Scotland decides to introduce fees!

Oh there was 1 at the end of our road I always loved it and we went to buy at last year was a wee bit out of our price range but we didnt get it Sad I always sneer at the new owners,

You study a far greater range of subjects at Scottish universities as well and there is more flexibility. My degree was English, but I also studied philosophy, economics, politics and more.

I wouldn't move just for the free fees though, who knows what will happen if we get independence?

Op - do you have jobs up here? Do you realise Edinburgh is on a par with London re property prices?

I love living here but there economic situation is tough, the jobs market very competitive for reasonably well paid jobs - teaching, nursing etc etc, it's tougher than London.

Unfortunately,teaching posts v competitive in Scotland.patchy amount supply
But actual ft posts v competitive to obtain.I'm not teacher but this is what I hear
Suppose depends upon your subject,I think it's worse at primary level to get job

I would move to scotland in a heart beat -not for the free uni (ds only 2 so likely the apocalypse will have happened by then anyway) but scotland is the bestest place ever in the universe - so go for it I say.

I haven't noticed any tropical sunshine since I moved to England either.

Log onto local council, look at jobs as they come up.
ask the Scottish teachers how it goes job wise

Scotland gets lots of English taxes to pay for all of these things. Same with Wales.

Best thing to do is move there to take advantage.

Just send the kids,if you really must,why do you need to move?cold? Fabulous day here,,folding kitchen doors open,sat outside for lunch..anyway,why should we pay for your kids education,,,that's down to you

I'm in the NE of Scotland and I can confirm the weather this week has been...Awright. Its been mild but up here we often get snow in March. Regarding uni, I went to Dundee. Lovely place, the only city I would live in if I were to move. I've spent time in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen and found them to be full of knobs, intimidating and too expensive for what you get respectively. Re teaching, my mum is a head teacher up here and gets a huge amount of applications for each job that comes up and they come up rarely. Also regarding uni, I never realised a hefty "graduate endowment" was payable at graduation until about a month before graduation and although not as expensive as fees it was not an insignificant amount.
