because I'm apparently mean because I make my ds (11 in April) go to bed at nine and everyone else in his class goes at 10pm (yeah right!).

I usually have to wake him up the next morning still though.

Depends on what he's doing that evening, but the aim is to be in bed at 8, lights off at 8:30. Today he wasn't home till 8:15 though, so lights went off at 8:45.

mrsjay · 26/02/2013 21:10

when mine were that age is was 9pm anylater and i couldnt get them up in the morning now they are older and im in bed before them , but I do make sure dd2 who is 15 is in her room no later than 10 on a school night, you are not mean and I bet your sons friends are in bed at the same time as him

mrsjay · 26/02/2013 21:13

I bet they all have Call of Duty too

and xbox live and are allowed out till way past 11 on the weekends and and and..... Wink

DramaLlamaFarmer · 26/02/2013 21:18

My nearly 10yo goes bed at 8.00 pm and reads 'til 8.45 pm. I am apparently mean too but she's always snoring by 9.00 pm and not knackered like zombie in the mornings.

CremeEggThief · 26/02/2013 21:24

DS (10) goes at 9 and turns his light out by 9.30. He doesn't have to get up until 8 a.m. though.

ilikemysleep · 26/02/2013 22:10

This thread has been useful to me! My DS is 11 and has aspergers - one o fthe common issues is being unable to get to sleep. He hasn't been asleep by 9pm since he was about 5. His lights go off at 10 and he is almost always still awake when I go up between 11 and 11.30. He often pops into the loo at midnight so I know he is still awake then. May use this info as further evidence to ask the psychiatrist to please consider melatonin....my 5 year old may need it too, he is almost never asleep before 9pm...and no they have no TV or videos in their rooms and we don't own an X-Box....

threesypeesy · 26/02/2013 22:14

bed for 8:30 on school night shes 10 in june.

glad to see this is around average so if she tries the "everyone else goes at..." lol

ThePinkOcelot · 26/02/2013 22:15

DD2 (8) goes at 8 and DD1 (11) goes at 9. They used to go to bed at the same time, until DD1 caught on that she was 3 years older!

monkeycrzy · 26/02/2013 22:17

11pm every night. Has done since she was about 6. She hardly needs any sleep

Earlybird · 26/02/2013 22:17

DD (almost 12) goes to bed at 8.30, and is up by 6.30.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/02/2013 22:20

The bet they all have CoD was because my DS told me that All his friends played it when he was in Yr 5. I was the mean mother who didn't let him.
But I found out by subtly asking that they didn't

So when my DS comes out with "Harry/Tom/Pete have 10pm bedtime/ Tango on demand/ McDonalds for lunch every day" then I give him the Call of Duty line...

And he knows that I know he's spinning me a line Wink

ThePlEWhoLovedMe · 26/02/2013 22:27

DS aged 10 (year 5) - Bed at 7.30, light out at 8pm ..without fail. (Up at 7am)

Wayyy more relaxed at weekends ... he will be in bed any time between 9pm and 1am (depending what we are doing).

mummymeister · 26/02/2013 22:36

10 goes to bed 7.30 - 8pm, 12 yr old goes same time but reads if she wants (usually 20 mins max) 15yr old has health issues so also in bed by 7.30 - 8. 10yr old stays up later on 1 or 2 nights if he has a club but never later than 9.

SanityClause · 26/02/2013 22:38

She goes up at 8:30, and I come up about 10 or 15 mins later to turn off the light.

GazpachoSoup · 26/02/2013 22:45

Anytime between 7 and 2am.
2am? For a 10 year old?! Sorry, I'm really not hoiking my judgy pants up, but seriously you let them go to bed at that time when there's school in the morning?!
How do they even function presuming they have to be up at 7 or 8am the next morning?! That's a max of 5 or 6 hours sleep. Nowhere near enough to focus properly on their schoolwork.

ohforfoxsake · 26/02/2013 22:50

Depends on activities. Pre-dinner activities mean a little earlier, post dinner a lot later. We try to eat together so it might be 6, 6.30 or 7 and that pushes bath and bed later.

My 10 & 11 yo vaguely go to bed at 8.30ish, bit of reading, lights off 9/9.30 ish depending on activities. Cubs & footy means they aren't home before 9 twice a week.

Younger ones (8 & 5) are 8.00ish, though it's normally slipped to 8.30 by the time I've read to them. Brownies means my 8yo doesn't go to bed til 8.45/9.

They get up at 7.45, the younger one is struggling this week after half-term so was in bed for 7.30 tonight and asleep by 7.45.

Remotecontrolduck · 26/02/2013 22:54

I was never fussed about bed times, unless they couldn't get up or were grumpy they could go when they wanted. Can't say I ever had any issues but maybe I was lucky, they went up of their own accord at 9:30-10ish. Had they been a nightmare in the mornings or half asleep all day i'd have imposed a bed time though.

Yfronts · 26/02/2013 22:55

lights out at 8

cocolepew · 26/02/2013 22:58

11 yo, last year in primary school, lights out at 9.30. She gets up at 7.15 no problem.

Yfronts · 26/02/2013 23:00

reading at 7ish, lights out at 8, up at 7am.

goes to bed earlier if exhausted/grumpy. Has been known to go to bed at 6pm after a hectic weekend.

Our lot start school at 7:50 so it's lights out by 8:00pm. Later at a weekend, and would allow later still if the little buggers would just sleep in!

insanityscratching · 27/02/2013 20:11

Dd 10 pretty much chooses when she goes to bed and it's usually between 9 and 10 during the week and as late as she wants at weekends. She doesn't struggle to get up for school and loves a lie in at the weekend so I'm happy at that.
