because I'm apparently mean because I make my ds (11 in April) go to bed at nine and everyone else in his class goes at 10pm (yeah right!).

I usually have to wake him up the next morning still though.

Op i would just tell your ds its not to do with age its to do with the abilty to get up and function of said amount of sleep

If my ds cant get up with out hassament from me or is snappy and tired at 15 he will be going to be at at a early hour i think it would be maddness just to move a bed time regardless of how they fuction on the said amout of sleep just due to age

ByTheWay1 · 26/02/2013 20:31

Depends on behaviour the night before! Go to bed nicely and don't arse about they go up 8.30 lights out 9... Arse about, shouting at each other - then next night bedtime 8.00 lights out 8.30...

Fair play to them though, bedtime is usually 8.30 as it seems to be an effective "punishment"...

They stay up later at the weekend IF we have a film to watch or are playing a long boardgame like Monopoly... general TV is not suitable for my 10 year olds after 9.... whatever their mates might say about Alan Carr or Russell Howard!!!

jinsymaw · 26/02/2013 20:33

Ooh thank The Lord, Worra and Adverse, I was doing a lot of hand wringing and gnashing of teeth, thinking my girls were totally out of order. They seem to be able to stay up till quarter to eleven and getting up at seven. Not good. I must be stronger!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/02/2013 20:33

DD is nearly 11yo.

8.30 pm if she's got Breakfast Club
9.00pm if she hasn't.

10pm Shock I bet they all have Call of Duty too Wink

bigTillyMint · 26/02/2013 20:33

My nearly 12 yearold has to go to bed at 8.30 (as his sister did at that age!) on a school night. I don't think he always goes straight to sleep, but at least he's resting. He finds it difficult to get up at 7amConfused

Tell him to tell his mates any time he likes and that you will back him up if necessary!

Possiblyoutedled · 26/02/2013 20:34

8.30 lights out at 9 but she faffs so much it's later.
Tonight she is just getting picked up from guides so will be later.
Weekends around tenish depending on what's happening

muddyin2013 · 26/02/2013 20:35

My DS2 goes to sleep at 10pm during the week and he's 16. He wouldn't cope if he went any later.

DD is up as soon as I call her in the morning and is always ready to go to the bus stop by 7.45am.

Where as DS2 is just getting out the shower at 7.40am. He usually takes his breakfast with him to eat on the way to the bus stop.
WE've tried getting him up earlier to no avail. That's teens for you.

elah11 · 26/02/2013 20:35

11 yr old here goes to bed at 8.30pm weekdays and 9pm weekends. 14 yr old goes at 9pm weekdays and maybe 10pm weekends

shesariver · 26/02/2013 20:36

10 year old (nearly 11 ) bedtime is half 9. No problems getting up in the morning either.

jellybeans · 26/02/2013 20:36

Anytime between 9 and 10pm (they have older sisters who do activities late sometimes and we have to go collect them as DH may be working.) I take issue with those who have flexible/later bedtimes being the 'naughty ones'! Mine are extremely well behaved and always get fab reports! But sometimes they stay up a little later. We don't have to get up till after 8am though and they always seem fine with the sleep they get.

jellybeans · 26/02/2013 20:37

oh and they don't have x box or COD!

LittleMissFantabulous · 26/02/2013 20:40

Normal nights between 7:30-8:30. Band and cubs nights by 9. She needs the sleep:)

Dromedary · 26/02/2013 20:41

Tends to go to bed around 10pm, to be honest. Up by 7am. Has a lie in at the weekend. Not ideal, but has a lot on plus homework and playing, and is a natural night owl. Doesn't usually watch tv on a school night.

TheOriginalLadyFT · 26/02/2013 20:42

Shower at 8pm, bed at 8.30pm on school nights. Up to 10pm on fri and sat nights

It's a battle of varying degrees each night Hmm

GazpachoSoup · 26/02/2013 20:44

My ds will be 10 in a few months, and on a school night goes to bed at 8pm. Friday night and Saturday night he's allowed an extra half hour and can go to bed at 8.30pm.
Any later than that and he's a frickin' nightmare the next day. Grin

LineRunner · 26/02/2013 20:45

I aimed for 9 hours sleep minimum.

KingscoteStaff · 26/02/2013 20:48

In bed 8.30, lights out at 9.

Up at 7am and insanely active...

mum382013 · 26/02/2013 20:48

9 and 11 go at 8pm but weirdly often my almost 18 often goes before them! not sure why, never send her she just goes as she gets up for college early.
I called up to her at 7.45 to say can you get me something and she was asleep! Never known a teenager to do that!

verytellytubby · 26/02/2013 20:50

10 year old goes to bed at 8.30. Lights off at 9. Usually awake until 10.

HorryDrelincourt · 26/02/2013 20:50

I used to work in a boarding school. Our Y6 had lights out at 9pm every night.

NettoSuperstar · 26/02/2013 20:51

Anytime between 7 and 2am.
I let her choose, and she does get it right.
I've never done set bedtimes,

Greensleeves · 26/02/2013 20:52

my boys aged 8 and 10 officially go at 7.30 on school nights, sometimes a bit earlier than that on a Sunday if they are tired and grotty

but often these days it spins out till 8ish

weekends between 8 and 9 depending on behaviour, with the occasional very late night if there is a reason

of course "everyone else" goes to bed at 10. This is the same "everyone" who has a smartphone and a DS and a TV in their room, and the same "everyone" who can afford £250 for the school trip to London, and who always has Oreos and Cheestrings in their lunch box. "Everyone"'s mother is a fucking mug and I wouldn't live her life for all the tea in China Grin

Wow. I only went upstairs to supervise my 2 DSs doing teeth, face and jimjams and came back down to 47 messages.

I did smell a rat when he said everyone else goes to bed at 10pm. I asked him who and he could only name one person in his class so thought he was telling me porkies! I told him that once he starts getting up OK the next morning then I'll see about making it a bit later but more often than not I have to wake him. And as it takes ages for him to wake up properly I can't see that happening anytime soon!

Thanks all.
