Laughed in my head obviously Smile

Because in a perfect world that would happen. But oh no you put a baby to bed later and of course they are going to wake up earlier.

Sods law.

Well mine always used to wake later. Perhaps she has one the same?

CapuletMontague · 26/02/2013 01:59

No hers woke up earlier than usual. As did mine.

And most people that I know.

I'm not laughing at her parenting, as I did and thought the exact same thing.

I'm laughing at how typical it is that in a perfect world it should happen that way.

My dc's were up late last week due to a family trip. Everyone was saying "Oh, but they'll sleep in tomorrow, won't they?"

Really? On what planet does that happen? All up at 6.30 as per usual.

Sigh.

FaceLikeAPickledOnion · 26/02/2013 03:48

It's a fantasy we all have that never becomes reality :(

belindarose · 26/02/2013 04:27

My DN does this Envy. Sleeps in for hours if she's up late (she's 2). GPs mistakenly assumed DD (3)would be the same when they had them both together overnight... No, DD up at 5.30, same as ever.

TroublesomeEx · 26/02/2013 04:29

It works with some babies. Not my daughter, but definitely my son.

MammaTJ · 26/02/2013 04:46

Didn't work with any of mine.

ripsishere · 26/02/2013 04:51

Nor mine. She could go to bed at midnight, she would still be up around 6.

CecyHall · 26/02/2013 04:55

Hasn't worked here ever either. I wouldn't laugh though, just have empathy for the desperation for a bit of a lie in! (Been up since 4.15 with the child that has never slept past 6am)

BubaMarra · 26/02/2013 05:09

It worked with DD1, but never with DD2.

eagerbeagle · 26/02/2013 06:18

Works with DD. not with DS.

Which isn't much good as have to get up with DS while DD snoozes.

lottie63 · 26/02/2013 06:26

I do think there is something in the saying 'sleep begets sleep'. Some children get into a routine straight away in terms of having loads of sleep - others, like my dd1, never did. I wonder if it was cause I overstimulated her during the day actually as I was so much more chilled out with dd2 so didn't do the same - and she slept/sleeps so much more

DragonMamma · 26/02/2013 06:32

Never worked with eithet of mine. Just meant they got overtired and woke in the night then were up for the day earlier than usual.

NumericalMum · 26/02/2013 06:32

I think it is personality lottie.
Never worked with my DC. She is nearly always up at 6, except school days where she often has to be woken. Unfortunately I was the same. Even now I hate lying in bed, but a happy medium or later than 5:30 on a Saturday would sometimes be nice...!

ChestyLeRoux · 26/02/2013 06:43

My dd if you keep her up late she stays in very late the next day.Good for if Im very tired or I have people over.A lot of children are the same as most sahms dread starting them at school/nursery for that reason.

DeWe · 26/02/2013 09:17

Mine would have woken later Grin
Dd1 from 8 weeks slept 12-13 hours (with the occasional 14). So if we went out with her and didn't get back until midnight she slept until 12 or 1 the next afternoon. She didn't get grumpy because she was tired at night as long as there was something going on, and she would have gone to bed at usual time the next night.

PolkadotCircus · 26/02/2013 09:23

Worked with all 3 of mine including twins, did give them a stonking last feed too though.

Peevish · 26/02/2013 09:24

I have to patiently tell and retell my parents that in the case of my DS at least, keeping him up all day without a nap results in a horrifically overtired baby who then sleeps badly at night. They persist in believing that preventing daytime naps and giving babies a late bedtime is the way to get them to sleep through, despite anything I tell them.

It explains a lot about my own babyhood - they still joke about what an appalling night-time sleeper I was, but, if my son is anything like me, I imagine I was just overtired and overstimulated.

seekingpeaceandquiet · 26/02/2013 09:29

It works with my dd 3yo and has done since she was tiny. Although we have co slept since birth so dont know if that has anything to do with it.

DancesWithWoolEnPointe · 26/02/2013 09:31

It has never worked for me, with any of my 3 children, through 9 years of not sleeping in.

AmberSocks · 26/02/2013 09:31

mine gp to sleep about 9 most nights, later if we have friends round, they wake up between 9-9.30.

none of us are morning people i this house.

Bejeena · 26/02/2013 09:36

Ladies I need scientific evidence to back this up as when our baby comes and consequently grows up into a child my husband seems to think just putting the child to bed later will make it get up later (he is very afraid of 5:30am starts) but all my friends have told me it won't work.

I need concrete proof for him to read to shut him up on the whole matter.

Delayingtactic · 26/02/2013 09:39

Doesn't work with DS. He'll probably sleep badly and wake up earlier just to teach you.

AmberSocks · 26/02/2013 09:39

it just depends on the child bejeena, some people seem to be natural early risers.

Boomerwang · 26/02/2013 09:42

It's random with my daughter. Sometimes she'll sleep til 8pm if she goes to bed late, but sometimes she'll be up at her usual 7am.

I say 7am, what I really mean is 6.50am. Not sure how she gets it bang on that time so often.
