To think husband could have a bought a kettle that matched the kitchen?

Needed a new kettle ASAP and husband came in a few hours later and surprised me with a new kettle which I thought was lovely. it's bloody bright blue and white, does not match the kitchen at all. Can't change it as it sounds like I'm being a controlling nutjob but every time I turn round it's there screaming out, taunting me with it's very hideousness! Please tell me IABU and to get a grip! usually he has quite good taste, a little chrome or even cream jobbie would have been most welcomed.

Grin. Men don't generally think about things like that, IMO. To him, it was a kettle, he needed one quickly, and it worked. Job done. YABU to expect him to care about matching the kitchen, perhaps.

(Next time buy it yourself)

MonaLotte · 25/02/2013 17:30

This would annoy me too so I'm no help! I'm sure you'll get loads of people saying you are ungrateful and unreasonable along soon :)

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2013 17:30

YABU. At least he produced a kettle. Look at the positives. Grin You will learn to love it eventually.

phantomnamechanger · 25/02/2013 17:31

does he even know what colour the rest of the kitchen is?

(bet the bright blue kettle that doesn't go was in the sale section if he's owt like mine!)

anonymosity · 25/02/2013 17:32

Nah, YABU. They can't do it - unless you cut out a photo for him and send him to the shop to ask for the exact same thing, you're not onto a winner.

We had a dark grey marble bathroom with white loo, bath, sink and I sent my DH out to get a bathmat. He came back with disgusting CHOCOLATE brown. I had to take it back the next day and get a charcoal grey one.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2013 17:33

Could you get the matching toaster? Grin

MohammedLover · 25/02/2013 17:34

As far as I'm concerned he is being unreasonable for not putting aesthetics first. It's a kettle for goodness sake of course it should match the kitchen.

Leave him...or just make sure it breaks very quickly so you can get another one or just refuse to use it and have wine instead :)

anony - mine needs to take all the empty packets to the supermarket to know what brands we buy - the kids all know, he doesn't......and he needs a map of the store so he's not there all day, but thats a whole new thread

MikeLitoris · 25/02/2013 17:36

I have a bronze/gold kettle, bright blue toaster and a white food processor.

This is what happens when dp is allowed to shop.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2013 17:36

Grin Mona. I always try and see the positives. he could have come back with an I pad or something.

MonaLotte · 25/02/2013 17:37

True sparkling!

BegoniaBampot · 25/02/2013 17:37

Toaster you say, please don't make me turn round and look at the toaster. He let the kids pick me one for my birthday. it's white with multicoloured spots! On second thoughts (strokes chin sagely) it actually sort of matches the kettle.

And yes, think kettle was on sale, wonder why!

YABU. Sending men shopping you either give crystal clear instructions or expect the unexpected. What colour should he have got as a matter of interest?

Fallenangle · 25/02/2013 17:42

He gave you a toaster for your birthday and you didn't hit him over the head with it! You are a saint.

BegoniaBampot · 25/02/2013 17:42

Didn't send him shopping, it was a surprise even though we needed one badly. And read the thread please, chrome or cream would have been satisfactory.

Most men (not all) are only bothered about the functional aspect of an appliance not it's colourGrin
Atleast he remembered to buy a kettle, so be rest assured you can atleast now have a cup of coffee.
Has to be better than no kettle!

BegoniaBampot · 25/02/2013 17:44

No the toaster was from the kids. He's actually much more thoughtful, generous and imaginative than I am usually. Though, the Colonic Irrigation he got me for Mother's Day a few years back did bring tears to my eyes!

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2013 17:47

OMG I have no sympathy now. A bloke that buys someone Colonic |rrigation as a gift will not be able to choose satisfactory kitchen items. Grin

MyHeadWasInTheSandNowNot · 25/02/2013 17:47

Buy another one, say a friend bought it for your birthday and you know she'll be offended if you don't use it - then put the other one in the nearest charity shop that takes electricals in the loft :)

Bless his little cottons for trying - but you do wonder if they wear blinkers!?! What's his dress sense like?

Fallenangle · 25/02/2013 17:48

I'd better not ask what colour the CI was!

MyHeadWasInTheSandNowNot · 25/02/2013 17:48

I might have to ask why you're still with him shortly!!

Could be worse. I let DH choose the kitchen tiles and I fecking hate them. They will be staring at me for the next 10 years.

VivaLeBeaver · 25/02/2013 17:52

I have a bright blue kettle and nothing else in the kitchen is blue. However I think it goes nicely in a contrasting manner. Grin
