More of a Am I being Deluded?

My coil is stuck. Have had two appointments with several nurses and Gp swinging from it.

It's not budging. My coil is being unreasonable. I have now being informed it is off to the Gynaecologists at hospital to be knocked out and have it removed.

Here is the possibly deluded bit. I think the Gynae will be able to remove it at the consiltation as they have more training and experience in things like this, and that they'll whip it out like butter, and I won't have to go to hospital and have a GA which I am scared of

I'm not being deluded am I? Please tell me this has happened to LOADS of people, they come out fine without GA and I should get a grip.

Been informed.

This sort of thing is why i am terrified of having a coil fitted- even though i want one!

Best of luck OP, i am sure it will turn out fine. Come back and let me know how it went.

Flobbadobs · 25/02/2013 10:57

No advice and my eyes are watering at the thought of anyone swinging off your coil!
Hope everything turns out ok for you though Thanks

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 25/02/2013 11:05

No no no! This is not how AIBU goes!

Everyone's supposed to

Hmm

And tell me it's not an issue and their coil was embedded 9" deep and removed with a harpoon whilst the poster bench pressed 15kilos because its such a non issue.

Jesus thanks for putting me off the last form of contraception that I can have.

I shall resign myself to forever using withdrawal and having a catholic style family.

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 25/02/2013 11:12

Softly

The coil is brilliant, insertion was fine and no problems till now

Despite all this I will be having another put in.

Well I would have thought that it's maybe the nurses that remove them the most tbh-sorry!

Are you sure GA was mentioned-I'm also terrified of that!

DaveMccave · 25/02/2013 11:15

Ouch! Good luck! At least it worked though, right? I had the opposite problem. Mine fell out randomly. Baby due this summer. Also wondering if I'll end up with a 'catholic' sized family :)

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 25/02/2013 11:48

Yours FELL out Shock

Gp definitely said it would be GA

Is there a Brook centre or a big well woman clinic? They are the experts in whipping out said items. wouldn't let anyone else near my fanjo

chocoluvva · 25/02/2013 13:10

They can't insist that you have a GA - there are porbably other options.

chocoluvva · 25/02/2013 13:10

probably even.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 25/02/2013 13:11

This is one of the reasons why I will never have one!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/02/2013 13:14

Was contemplating a coil. Not any more!!!
Their PR dept are gonna sue you! Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 25/02/2013 13:15

Surely an epidural would work?

NandH · 25/02/2013 13:22

I had a coil... absolute pain the whole time it was in, which is why I had it taken out after 6 months! I was taking 3 feminax a day for those 6 months because it was that painful!

then when I had it taken out it wouldn't come out until a different doctor came in and yanked it out... that bloody hurt and I bled for 5 weeks after that!!!

if they say have a ga...have one!!! you do not want it yanked out while awake trust me!!

spiffysquiffyspiggy · 25/02/2013 13:28

The useless gp claimed not to be able to see or feel my coil. The one that I could clearly feel sticking out the end of my cervix. The threads had disappeared about a year previously but it was still in the right position. then it shifted again and i was in a fair bit of pain. She told me I'd need a scan followed by a operation. I refused to budge until there was an alternative plan that didn't involve me waiting weeks while bleeding heavily. Saw lovely Dr at local gum clinic that night who whipped it out no problem. She was so good she even managed to persuade me to have another one.Grin

weegiemum · 25/02/2013 13:32

Mine fell out.

Yours might be more painful/awkward but I've got 9yo dd2 to show for it!

A wee bit of advice though. I got pg with mirena when it was in my cervix. It was pulled down by a smear. SP you might want to take other precautions until it's sorted, because otherwise, you don't know where it is!!

FakePlasticLobsters · 25/02/2013 13:40

Perhaps if you ask them at the hospital, they will have a go first with you awake and using gas and air if necessary.

Twice I've been told I needed a GA but when the time came they were more than happy to use a local or let me have gas and air. Not for a coil though, because there is no way in hell I would be brave enough to have one in the first place.

But it's worth asking.

soaccidentprone · 25/02/2013 13:48

I know this doesn't help, but mine fell out twiceSad

obviously not for me. dh has had a vasectomy as 2 ds's are quite enough.

I would take a couple of paracetamol before you see the gyno, and try to relax (easier said than done) as it'll hurt more if you are tense. and try to get someone to go with you to help you home. you could well feel very dizzy after.

steppemum · 25/02/2013 13:49

you will be fine (strokes hand soothingly)
gaeny will just pull it out not problem (offers Wine )
relax

....(so that you are so scared of the GA which is probably coming....)

steppemum · 25/02/2013 13:49

whoops - not so scared

JuliaScurr · 25/02/2013 13:55

Dave mine disappeared too. Luckily, menopause had arrived, so no more unintended offspring

OrangeLily · 25/02/2013 13:57

Mines was embedded in the wall of my uterus.

They had given me truckloads of painkillers so just yanked it out (or removed carefully if your speaking doctor talk). Hurt sooooo badly.

GA may be the way to go!

MummytoMog · 25/02/2013 14:33

Go to someone who is a specialist - my FP clinic said for the love of god do not go to your GP to have it removed. I will be going to a FP clinic to have mine taken out (btw I fricking love it, took a couple of months for periods to settle down again and is now perfect), but I bet a Gynae will just whip it out.
