to put a dead mouse in dp's lunch?

I am getting v fed up with dp making food and then leaving it out on the kitchen counter overnight before he eats it for breakfast/lunch the next day.

We have had a mouse problem and, despite pest controller sealing the house, have spotted one again last week. One of the things the pest controller said was to keep all food covered and away in fridge/cupboards. We have a ds crawling and don't want yucky carpets.

TBF DP does do some housework but has some kind of mental block with putting food away. It's not a huge deal for me to clean up after him but is a bit of a pain when am on my way to bed when I notice and I don't see why he can't just do it.

Having mentioned it so much am risking nagging, AIBU to think that leaving a mouse floating in his stew would solve problem pretty quickly? You can buy them in pet shops, right, to feed snakes?

I think that may be going a step too far, sorry.

Iggly · 25/02/2013 09:17

Get a fake one?

AnyFucker · 25/02/2013 09:17

I presume you are joking

Softlysoftly · 25/02/2013 09:19

Don't worry if he keeps leaving meat out at room temperature for hours with mice wandering around it food poisoning may finish him of for you

Emilythornesbff · 25/02/2013 09:19

Eek!
Just keep nagging. It usually works eventually. grin
Or a dead fox might we the point for you. Do the pet shop sell them?

TheElephantIsADaintyBird · 25/02/2013 09:19

A dead mouse is a step to far like! Would you be willing to compromise and maybe leave some very obvious mouse droppings?

HecateWhoopass · 25/02/2013 09:20

If you have a mouse problem it's only a matter of time before that happens anyway!

CajaDeLaMemoria · 25/02/2013 09:20

You'd need to throw away everything that came into contact with the mouse, and to be honest, it'd probably just give him a complex about checking his food thoroughly - leaving food out won't attract dead mice, it'll be alive ones.

Honestly, even without going into the details, it's really not a good idea. Go with throwing out everything he leaves out. Once he's worked out that the things he wants to eat have been thrown away because he left them out, he'll quit it.

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2013 09:20
Grin

I might be tempted to do something along those lines...

Emilythornesbff · 25/02/2013 09:20

Droppings! Ha!

Locketjuice · 25/02/2013 09:21

Il be the odd one out and say do it! Purely for my amusement Grin make sure you can get someone to get a picture of his face Grin

ClaimedByMe · 25/02/2013 09:21

I have 2 on my front doorstep you are welcome to??

I think YABU but I would feel the same!

Binkyridesagain · 25/02/2013 09:21

Would you have it floating or posed?

You also need to boot polish it, pet shop mice tend to be white.

livinginwonderland · 25/02/2013 09:22

just throw it away, and when he complains, tell him that in the future, any food left out overnight is going in the bin. he'll learn.

HerbyVore · 25/02/2013 09:24

It's not really nagging if it's protecting your family, especially small child, from vermin is it?

Just tell him it'll be going in the bin if he doesn't start putting it away.

Another point though, if it is stew he's making it should however be left to completely cool before going in the fridge - is this why he leaves it out?

Emilythornesbff · 25/02/2013 09:29

My "nagging" comment was tongue in cheek as it's the term commonly used to describe the repeated mentioning of stuff that needs mentioning repeatedly because it doesn't get done after the first mentioning.

Pixieonthemoor · 25/02/2013 09:35

Oh dear. We have had mice and, whilst they are deeply cute (in my opinion) the fact that they are incontinent and just widdle/crap whilst they walk along is utterly revolting!! I would do two things: 1) get some chocolate, warm it in your hands and then fashion some droppings to liberally sprinkle on the food he has left out. Then 2) buy a large tin or Tupperware and leave it out on the side where he preps the food for him to pop it in if he seriously is unable to open the fridge door Hmm If 1 doesn't drive him to 2 then I don't know what to suggest!!

oopslateagain · 25/02/2013 09:44

Bin. Every time. Tell him you're going to throw away any food left out in case it's contaminated by mice, and DO IT.

When you say he 'makes food and leaves it out', are you home? When he's been in the kitchen, just say, "If you've left food out, put it away or I'll have to throw it away because of the mice". If he hasn't got any lunch the next day, it's his own fault.

Startail · 25/02/2013 09:54

I'm sure you can find a very life like rubber rat on eBay Grin

drivingmisspotty · 25/02/2013 09:57

I wasn't joking actually :-o but obviously my fear of mouse infestation has made me unreasonable! I don't think I would actually do it but mostly as I am too squeamish. (DP isn't at all, would probably laugh about it and poss taunt m e with the mouse, another reason not ot to do it!)

Binky good point re boot polish LOL. Was also envisaging it posed as though struggling. Would have to be something wet it could have drowned in as Caja mentioned food would attract live mice.

Liking the chocolate droppings idea. More appetising. .

Okay think I need to stop there as getting too detailed and risking being nicknamed MouseCorpseTroll

DeepRedBetty · 25/02/2013 09:58

We've got a plastic rat in the toy box, she's called Rita and I'll be happy to lend her to you. She's quite lifelike...

drivingmisspotty · 25/02/2013 09:58

But yes those of you saying I should say I will chuck it and do that are absolutely right. Otherwise it'd be a passive aggressive mouse, no?

OP posts:
IsItMyArseOrMyElbow · 25/02/2013 10:04

A few grains of rice and a can of black spray paint ... all you need to make some fresh droppings!

drivingmisspotty · 25/02/2013 10:08

I like the idea, IsIt

Haha DeepRed maybe joke mouse is the way to go. Will be more difficult for him to forget what I've been saying, then, but minus biohazard and grimness.

PessaryPam · 25/02/2013 10:16

Make some fake mouse droppings and pop them in. See if he notices.
