To think this bra doesn't fit?

I went to John Lewis for a bra fitting last week as I have changed size post-pregnancy. The sales assistant sized me as a 34G which I was surprised at because I have been wearing a 36 on the second set of hooks so I'm not convinced a 34 would do up. Anyway she brought me three size 36F bras to try on as they didn't have any in 34G. I bought one because I really needed a new bra but I feel a bit squished in it - my boobs are pushed together at the front.

AIBU to think this bra doesn't fit and I should just order in size 36G from the Internet?

High would appreciate some help. I ordered some
Bras today before I saw this thread. I have a problem with the underwire gaping and having back fat ( the shame) . I ordered freya 36E- previously I was wearing m&s 36dd. My measurements are 36/42. Do you think that will be ok?

littlejo67 · 03/03/2013 02:04

Extra info- if I take my bra off and lean over and measure I am 46. Confused now as my measurement of 42 could of been made in a badly fitting bra.

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 08:36

littlejoe67 the cup is the hardest part to get right but I tend to go with the dangling method of measuring. I would suggest you trying 36GG. I suspect that when you get your new 36Es, if you scoop you will have major overspill. How do your current 36s feel in the band if you try them back to front?

zebrafinch · 03/03/2013 08:59

Thank you so much, I look so different in the new bra size ( younger less matronly shape ) I went to m and s bought matching set 32g I cannot believe the difference! I just would not have bothered without seeing this thread.

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 09:04

Glad to hear that ZebraFinch! Did the women in the fitting room give you the "a 32? what!" look (given they probably have you at about a 38b!)

littlejo67 · 03/03/2013 09:38

Hi Sorrel- so you put the bra on back to front so the cups are on your back and your boobs hang over the back strap? Did that and on tightest clasp I can pull it easily away about 2 cms. I was measured in m&s 3yrs ago and never questioned it. I don't have good uplift , without my bra I am quite full and pendulous! Thanks for the help. I currently use a minimiser, I thought that would be a way to keep them pinned and in one place!

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 09:43

Hi yes, just do the band up with the clips at the front and ignore the cups and shoulder straps.

I think you should consider a 34 band as well. Make sure you try both in different brands/styles when you go shopping. Debenhams Gorgeous range comes up very small in the back so you might need a 36 there but a 34 in something like Freya.

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 09:44

Oh, remember that if you try a 34 to go up at least one cup, so a 34H

littlejo67 · 03/03/2013 09:48

Sorrel- thank you so much will cancel my Internet order and pop into debenhams tom with your info. Your a star.

Viewofthehills · 03/03/2013 09:50

Hi, can I join in. Just read the thread and got inspired. Measure under-32, over 37. I'm currently wearing a 34 c which I was quite pleased with til I 'scooped' and am now spilling over. And it pulls out easily 2" plus at the back.
Please can you tell me what I should try?
Also I seem to need a bit of space in the middle. I've never fitted well into bras that have the cups close together at the front or is that a red herring since I'm wearing the wrong size anyway?

ilovepowerhoop · 03/03/2013 09:53

32DD to start with probably, Viewofthehills

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 10:06

ViewOfTheHills, some bras have a wider central gore than others,, and you will probably find that plunges aren't great for you. Try Curvy Kate and Panache as a start point

lustybusty · 03/03/2013 10:45

I love the bravissimo satine... Have it in black and white, can't afford the others at the moment Sad but the effect on my 38HH boobies... Jaws drop!! Grin
Ladies (can't namecheck all of you, there's so many of you!!) you are doing a fabulous job!! I'm linking to the new blog left, right and centre. And I'm taking my friend shopping today. She is a 36a (m&s fitted) and measures 30/35, I've suggested a 30dd? (also planning on getting her to try up and down back/cup sizes to check) Will report back later...

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 10:59

Yup, start with a 30DD for your friend. Fingers crossed.... and thanks for linking

lustybusty · 03/03/2013 18:15

Statistically, just home from shops, she was most comfy in 32d, so I allowed her that (but am expecting another shop in a month or so when she gets used to the "tightness"). She was amazed, gobsmacked and very happy. :-) thanks ladies for giving me the confidence to help her!!
And stealing from another poster on one of the threads BiscuitBiscuit

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/03/2013 18:21

Some people do have to do it in "steps" to get used to a GOOD bra. It could also be if she is particularly lacking in padding that she needs 1 size more than she "measures" at. But that's a pretty massive improvement!

SorrelForbes · 03/03/2013 18:50

Yes, my friend went from a 36D to a 36F and is now in a 32GG!

lustybusty · 03/03/2013 18:53

Yeah, I had a similar experience with losing weight (couldn't get my head round going from a 22 to a 14, still insisted on buying size 18 trousers and wondering why they kept falling down!!)
I'm just so pleased she's gonna be more comfortable now. Grin

Viewofthehills · 03/03/2013 22:32

Off to Bravissimo when I'm in London this week. Always thought I was too small to get a bra there Smile

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 04/03/2013 09:10

SC, my boobs (34F) are quite wide set but full, do you think the Satine would work on me?

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/03/2013 09:16

Given that it's now Monday, could those of you who have experienced bad fittings please fb or tweet the heck out of the retailers and direct them to the campaign, blog, twitter etc? We might be more likely to get reactions during the week.

Doctrine it suits my friend who is that shape

50shadesofmeh · 04/03/2013 09:21

Hey folks I'm 36 weeks pregnant normally a 34E but bought a 36G last week but not comfy at all,
I'm measuring 36.5 under boobs and 43.5 around widest part of boobs, I would be forever in your debt if anyone could give me some advice .

50shadesofmeh · 04/03/2013 09:41

Sorry correction under bust 34 and over 42 was measuring in daft position

SorrelForbes · 04/03/2013 12:38

50shadesofmeh Sorry about the delay! On those measurement I would say try a 34G but if your 36G isn't comfy then I think you're probably going to need to go up a cup. Can you post where it was uncomfortable and what style/make the bra is?

ArtemisatBrauron · 04/03/2013 12:47

Will do statistically - was fitted as a 34 C and same week as 32 D by M & S but by different lady, am actually a 28F or sometimes 30 E...
