To think this bra doesn't fit?

I went to John Lewis for a bra fitting last week as I have changed size post-pregnancy. The sales assistant sized me as a 34G which I was surprised at because I have been wearing a 36 on the second set of hooks so I'm not convinced a 34 would do up. Anyway she brought me three size 36F bras to try on as they didn't have any in 34G. I bought one because I really needed a new bra but I feel a bit squished in it - my boobs are pushed together at the front.

AIBU to think this bra doesn't fit and I should just order in size 36G from the Internet?

SC - Thank you for trying to help.

What style bra should I go for?
And did you mean the 28FF size for me...how would that fit round my back?

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:17

No, the 36ff - post right underneath your last one!

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:18

sorry, mixing up posts!

Greenkit · 28/02/2013 16:18

Ok thank you, 36FF

Now style?

There is so bloody many

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:23

Hang on greenkit, let me backtrack a wee bit!

I think we were trying to work out your boob shape. If you look at your boobs, front on, is there much of a gap between them at the point where your bra would be sitting (i.e. where the inside edge of the breast attaches to your body?

I have a suspicion the shape of the bra is the source of your problem

Greenkit · 28/02/2013 16:26

no not really

This is the sort of bra I always go for, see the triangle in the middle at the bottom, that's where it always digs in

I have emptied my bank account into Bravissimo, and am now the proud owner of a 28GG Betsy Bow and two 28H panache Superbras (in my head "superbra" is pronounced Soo-Par-Bra in a mock-oriental accentBlush)
My breasts are back up where they belong, supported by the chest strap even on the loosest hook (for now)GrinGrin thank you for giving me the impetus to get properly fitted.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:33

OK, in that case I think you have the same issue as me - close set boobs.

It can make bra buying a bit of a PITA, as bras like the one linked to have a bit of a gap between the wires, and the wires are sort of mid height. Which means, if your breasts are close set, that the end of the wires pokes in to your breast tissue. Does that maybe sound like the issue?

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:34

Sounds like a productive trip - did you find them tight enough or are you making do for now?

Greenkit · 28/02/2013 16:35

Yes, but more at the bottom of the triangle,

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:38

Hmm, right at the bottom can actually be a sign the bra is falling forward too.

Have you ever tried an entirely different shape of bra - something like the Bravissimo Alana, which is much higher in the centre.

SorrelForbes · 28/02/2013 16:39

I agree with SC, sounds like a style issue (possibly coupled with a need for a bigger cup in some styles).

FWIW I own one of those bras but never wear it as I found it didn't really give me a good shape or much lift. I also gaped at the top of the cup. Plunges and me are not a good combination.

Lueji · 28/02/2013 16:46

(and this one from Debenhams doesn't even fit the model. Grin )

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 16:48

Jesus, that's about 3 cup sizes too small!

EMUZ · 28/02/2013 16:51

I'm posting a bra photo because my bra photos are all over a blog anyway as I did examples of bad and good bras for someone Grin

I have many many bras if anyone needs good/bad photos Blush
This is a new one from debenhams gorgeous range in a 34JJ

See that Debenhams photo is how I always thought bras were meant to fit. I thought that was the desired effect. I think I've been wearing too small bras/cups since I was about 14 Blush

ImpYCelyn · 28/02/2013 17:02

And this one www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_152010301380_-1 I thought I'd struck gold if a bra fitted like that.

I think Wonderbra might be to blame...

Tortoise · 28/02/2013 17:05

I've found a Debenhams fairly nearby. Are they any good at sizing/measuring? Wondering if worth going in and trying some on in there.

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 17:06

See, the cleavage itself isn't a bad thing. I have EPIC cleavage in some bras. It's the fact that the outside of the wires is resting on a vast amount of breast tissue. That last one, the wire needs to be about 3 inches further to the side.

this is how cleavage should be done

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 17:08

Tortoise, Debenhams tend to have good bras but their fitting service is...variable. Some are good, many aren't

EMUZ · 28/02/2013 17:09

Is that the patterned bravissimo Satine? Gives amazing cleavage Grin but mine is too big in the back and too small in the cup now Hmm and they don't do a JJ in it

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 17:10

It is the Satine, yes. Hopefully they will extend the size range further

ImpYCelyn · 28/02/2013 17:31

That is an amazing bra! - I may have to splash out on one.

It's not just the cleavage I mean. I used to think bras were meant to cover not much of the breast, I would never have worn a bra with a big enough cup to fit all the way to the sides. Mainly because I never really saw photos of people with big cups, even when they had large boobs. In retrospect, that's probably because for years I bought bras in La Senza et al.

I do think it's misleading though when the photos show them badly fitting, how are women meant to know if the models wear them like that.

Tortoise · 28/02/2013 21:07

I like the look of this one but can i bear to order any more if they might not fit!

PukeCatcher · 28/02/2013 21:10

Hiya, can you do me? 28 back, 37 boobage, am I right at 28gg and what sizes should I try around please? Currently wearing 32dd which was pre baby sizing, but breastfeeding and running around seems to have changed my body somewhat although I'm not suretthat size wa so accurate anyway. Finding that nips are popping out and shoulder straps slipping at the mo. Ta!
