to wonder if all is quite right in the Cameron household?

Now this is purely speculation and idle curiosity but I'm wondering if all is right in the Cameron marriage. I can't remember the last time I saw Sam Cam 'on public duties' but perhaps she has been and I've just not seen her? Now I've read this (Daily Mail link) and it just screams at me 'My wife is refusing to have anything to do with me so lets hide that by keeping all other wives etc at home'. Or AIBU and clearly their wives would distract them from talking about tax etc? Hmm

The ongoing strain of living in Downing Street must be huge and when you add in to that their grief for their son I think that's a receipe for danger to any marriage.

I imagine it's to stop the daft media circus that tends to follow Michelle Obama.

I mean why let something as trivial as the G8 Summit get in the way of who's wearing the best outfit and shoes...

Tee2072 · 23/02/2013 16:29

Interesting. Since the PM's wife usually hosts a separate event, I find asking they to not bring wives a bit strange, TBH.

I wonder if you're right.

WorraLiberty · 23/02/2013 16:30

But no to answer your question, I doubt it has anything whatsoever to do with his marriage.

TheVermiciousKnid · 23/02/2013 16:30

Maybe she's joined the Labour party? Grin

Tee2072 · 23/02/2013 16:31

Interestingly, Worra I just searched for Samantha Cameron and all the news is about her and London Fashion Week. Michelle Obama's is about her 'mom dance' on Jimmy Fallon for her 'Let's Move' campaign.

SpringHeeledJack · 23/02/2013 16:32

FOR FUCKS SAKE WHAT DOES HE THINK THESE WIVES ARE GOING TO DO TO SCUPPER PROCEEDINGS?

is Michelle going to persuade Barack to go and see Les Mis when he's supposed to be doing his Proper Work?

utter, utter twaddle

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:33

That's a good point buggerama......

Worra, yes I know that's the case BUT I thought all the real work went on behind the scenes before the actual summit? Isn't it rare that they actually talk without knowing exactly what the others are already going to say? The G8 is as much about international comaraderie and mateyness as it is actually getting stuff done isn't it?

OddBoots · 23/02/2013 16:33

Wow, the first thing that strikes me from that article is that all of the G8 leaders are male.

WorraLiberty · 23/02/2013 16:34

And then there's the cost.

We're supposed to be saving money, not spending it unnecessarily.

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:35

Apart from Angela Merkel!

OP posts:
OddBoots · 23/02/2013 16:36

Oh yes, it was just the way the article read, there was no mention of partners being male.

SnoogyWoo · 23/02/2013 16:38

I am sure SamCam is happy the rich are getting richer with her father worth £20 million and her step father worth £130 million!

OptimisticPessimist · 23/02/2013 16:39

Is it just me that finds it quite depressing that the G8 are primarily male (with the exception of Angela Merkel) and that the role of women is reduced to the hosting "wife" organising activities for the other "wives" while the men get on with the important stuff?

OptimisticPessimist · 23/02/2013 16:40

X-post OddBoots!

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:41

I find it more depressing that wives (and the important contribution they can make) are being excluded altogether. Political wives can make a lot of difference for causes they take an interest in.

Stupid DM. how DARE they refer to those women as WAGS!?

The term WAG is synonymous with airheads...it has no place in political news.

mrsbunnylove · 23/02/2013 16:47

has mrs cameron got something to hide? is she up the duff? or is she too old? cherie blair had to do it 'for her country', well, for her husband's popularity rating.

Lucyellensmum95 · 23/02/2013 16:48

I'm not sure why I should care about this tbh.

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:50

ACtually the more I think about it the more I'm surprosed they haven't seperated (yet). Aside from living with Dave, they were parenting a serioudly disabled child and the rate for marriage failure in parents like them is something like 8 in 10 isn't it?

OP posts:
Lucyellensmum95 · 23/02/2013 16:56

having just read the article, well skimmed it because i actually dont care - This smacks of economic belt tightening - the whole "wives and husbands welcome" to firm xmas "dos" to "no partners" rule.

To be honest - unless the wife (or husband) has a role to play then i absolutely agree (OMG this may be the first and last time this ever happens!) with Dave. I don't want my taxes going towards partners tagging along and enjoying the "hospitatlity" which must cost a fortune at these summits. Unless of course, they are performing a supportive role.

(says me who unashamedly took my DP to a conference with me because i was too much of a wuss to travel to switzerland on my own Blush we paid our own way though!)

squeakytoy · 23/02/2013 16:58

I have never understood why the spouses of politicians have to be paraded around or given public duties any way.

Lucyellensmum95 · 23/02/2013 16:58

But REALLY the state of DCs marriage is of no interest to me whatsoever. Your last comment there NL is a bit distasteful if you ask me. "parents like them" Hmm

Badvoc · 23/02/2013 16:58

Their son had round the clock nursing care northern.
The were nit carers in the sense I understand...I.e sole care 24/7 with little respite.
But yes, the stats of marriage breakdown after bereavement are high, understandably.

NorthernLurker · 23/02/2013 16:58
Grin

I wonder if that's it - we can't afford to pay to feed, water and secure all the partners.............?
