So I got a wedding invitation this morning and guess what!

It contained not one single opportunity to take offence. Not one! AngryThere was no poem, no gift list, no cash request (they even said they don't want presents ), there was a map, the wedding isn't in the middle of nowhere, they will lay on transport, suggested hotels are affordable and close by. Hell, they even asked if we will be needing high chairs and for any dietary requirements.

The ONLY thing there is to be pissed off about is that DH has been asked to be an usher and will therefore be required to hire a morning suit.

AIBU to think they should have tried harder to provide offence?

I ran to the door,
And there on the floor,
Was the card for your day
I look in dismay
There was nothing unfeasible
The end of AIBU

No...is a complete sentence

Hang on.

It's not really on to accuse them of reasonableness until you we have judged them on table favors.

TheVermiciousKnid · 22/02/2013 13:37

They are providing transport, paying for you suit hire and have said they don't want any gifts? Hmpf. Clearly they think they're made of money. The bloody show offs.

nickelbabe · 22/02/2013 13:40

ah, well, there you go then.

ZolaBuddleia · 22/02/2013 13:48

No stamp? Uncivilised beasts.

TheSmallClanger · 22/02/2013 13:58

Is there some sort of ghastly theme you don't know about yet?

I bet the day will be organised around a mammoth photo shoot in the middle, with no refreshments other than water out of the bathroom tap for the bored guests...

Charlesroi · 22/02/2013 14:01

Maybe they'll sit you next to the lecherous pisshead uncle, or there will be a fight at the reception?

WilsonFrickett · 22/02/2013 14:05

Are you old? You should check with an old person in case there's a special trip planned for the old dears...

QOD · 22/02/2013 14:25

We got one yesterday

On the outside it says "Love Never Fails"

Which is odd as its both of their 2nd engagements, the mum who the actual invite is from has been engaged 4 times, married once and on and off with her female partner.

I'm offended by their statement which makes me happy.

skaen · 22/02/2013 16:26

Its terrible isn't it!? My brother is getting married next year. DD is a bridesmaid, children are welcome to the whole thing or babysitters provided; no gift list; easy to get to and very cheap accommodation.

They could really have tried harder!

FakePlasticLobsters · 22/02/2013 16:29

It's unreasonable to invite people to weddings. Expecting them to give up their time to come and watch you get married. It's just showing off.

Can you get worked up about that, do you think?

Floggingmolly · 22/02/2013 16:34

Frame it. You'll never see the like of it again Smile

ENormaSnob · 22/02/2013 16:45

I actually think we need photographic evidence tbh.

ArbitraryUsername · 22/02/2013 16:49

We went to a wedding last summer where there was no possibility of taking offence. The invitations were polite and sensible. They got married far away from us, but chose a sensible location close to where they live (in a city where we could stay at the premier inn).

They invited all 4 of us and had a children's menu that we could choose from for the boys. The bride (who doesn't have children yet) made up little entertainment packs for the very small number of children who were there, which were incredibly thoughtful and totally geared to the children's ages.

It was, in short, absolutely nothing like you'd expect weddings to be from reading MN.

TheCrackFox · 22/02/2013 17:02

What is the point in getting married if you can't fuck off all your friends and family? I really dispair about the state of this country sometimes.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 22/02/2013 17:53

You know, I may just have to go along and.... enjoy myself Sad
