EllieArroway · 07/02/2013 10:50

Don't miss the point, please MaryZ. It's not about whether it's areslickey or not - it's about people offering opinions and being told off for doing so.

WorraLiberty · 07/02/2013 10:52

OK, how about if we all smear our arses and each others with Marmite?

That'll cause a dilemma

PickledInAPearTree · 07/02/2013 10:55

But then the opinion is that if your of the other opinion you are a sycophant?

Confused

Argh!

Pagwatch · 07/02/2013 10:56

So how does that work?
When is a comment just a comment.
When is a comment a telling off.

If people are disagreeing them I hope I pay them both the respect of giving each view equal weight.
If I say 'I disagree.i think that is bollocks', when is that just a post and when is it a telling off?

havingastress · 07/02/2013 10:57

I don't get why the Terry Wogan photo though?! Still mystified?!

Pagwatch · 07/02/2013 11:00

Havingastress

There is already at least one précis on this thread

EllieArroway · 07/02/2013 11:01

Hang on.....

I don't personally think this thread is sycophantic. I think it's nice. I said so.

If I did think it was sycophantic I could (and maybe would) say that too.

Either way, we are entitled to express our opinions without being told we should be ashamed of ourselves like we are naughty Year 6s.

Maybe I'm just bitter though, because if someone posted that I was a cunt, it would be "Who? Meh".

EllieArroway · 07/02/2013 11:04

"That is bollocks" is not the same as "You should be ashamed of yourself".

WorraLiberty · 07/02/2013 11:05

See? I knew you were not up to the high standards of that other OP. You cant fool me. Oh no.

Pagwatch · 07/02/2013 11:07

Ellie
So is the answer to my question that you think a comment is a telling off if it has a certain tone?

I am not being argumentative. I am curious.
I didn't think the 'you get told off if you criticise royalty' was about tone.
I am trying to figure out why poster a saying 'this is arse likely royalty shit' is a comment while 'I thinkthat is bollocks and both unfair and untrue' is a telling off.

The reason I want to understand is because I think the 'royalty' stuff is utter shite. But I think people should be allowed to post it. And I should be allowed to disagree. Both posts are equal.
Which is why I don't understand the 'telling off' thing.

Does that make sense . At all?

Pagwatch · 07/02/2013 11:08

X-post.

Ok. Thanks Ellie.
I don't think I agree. I think a telling off tone might just be what happens hen avoiding saying 'oh do fuck off' .
But thanks Smile

... thank your lucky stars that you still have chips ...

EllieArroway · 07/02/2013 11:18

See - I didn't think that Piglet was actually name calling, or not at least singling people out. Just that she thought there was a lot of arse-licking going on.

But - it's difficult, I agree. There's a fine line between disagreeing heartily and launching a personal attack. Not that I think MaryZ did that see, I'm a sycophant too but I don't think Piglet did either.

Personally, I stick to comments like "How fucking stupid" or "What a load of rubbish" rather than "Fuck off". I don't think I've been deleted for it yet.
