AIBU?

To think that if this daft woman on the telly could 'feel' that she was standing on Richard III's grave...

Then they should have just dug under her feet?

I'd have dropped her in the hole once I'd got him out

Oh you utter bastards, you've ruined it for me Grin

Had I not read all your comments about the grieving widow choosing a femur for a dildo I may have been able to see her as someone very passionate about her chosen cause who has had a lot of time and effort realised, and appreciated the huge historical significance it really has.

No, No you wouldn't have, Gilmour.

I was watching last night and thought "she wants to marry the skeleton. She is barking. I wonder if anyone on MN is thinking the same...."

I felt quite sorry for stupid death guy as he clearly didn't know how to do with this loony woman who kept crying. Loved the bones woman when the flag came out you could see her thinking "oh ffs really?"

Mine keeps stopping and starting. I'm going to be here all night at this rate.

I have to say though, I am finding it interesting. I only finished reading The Kingmaker's Daughter last week.

Bunnygotwhacked yes channel 4seven is on freeview, it repeats programmes from 4 channels in the week after they were first broadcast.

I think the whole programme was a bit of an insult to trained archaeologists knowledge and expertise. They have known for ages where Greyfriars used to be and they were aware that written accounts said where he was buried.
I am willing to bet they did a geophysical survey before they started. So it wasn't so much of a surprise that they found him quickly.

Salteena wrote "I mean, this is an amazing archaeological find of huge historical importance.

I can't see what the historical importance is. The things that we would really like to know about him like "Did he kill his nephews ?" can't be answered by archaeology. I just don't get the fuss.

Historical Importance? Um, try - the first kingly skelington to be encased in cardboard, draped in shiny nylon and shoved in a Transit.
There will be stamps made, commemorating that moment.

She was bonkers, bless her, wasn't she. I had to keep reminding myself that the amazing discovery wouldn't have happened without her (that is true, isn't it?)

It is true to say that archaeology is seriously underfunded.

I was so excited about this programme, then I saw it.
Couldn't they have edited out the cringe factor? Surely they must have had SOME footage that showed Phillipa looking rational. Surely.

She did come across as a bit mad but she was spot on, she has talents and interests that I don't get excited about but good luck to her I say. I thought she was going to combust/have an orgasm/pass out at one point but as I say, fair play to her, leave her alone.

I haven't watched it myself (yet - am quite intrigued although not a history fan) but my colleague was saying she thought it was a docudrama/spoof thing when she watched it because the reactions/emotions were so extreme!

If you read about the dig on the Richard iii society pages it goes into detail about her dream, the funding and also how the archaeologists dug in other places and found other things on site. I found the programme too lightweight and Stupid Death unwatchable especially when the nail gun gag went on for FAR too long . When he held up his camera that had a picture of Michael on it next to a painting of Richard and talked about a likeness, it was time to shoot him.

"It's really difficult seeing him laid out like this"
That's not right, is it?

If I had done a huge amount of research on a famous character and actually FOUND his bones I would be in tears too. I'd be hopping around with excitement and be so overwhelmed that I'd found a KING OF FUCKING ENGLAND FFS that I'd be like an over-excited two year old.

However, I wouldn't be (almost) donning a black veil and almost begging the scientists to tell me that his hunched back would hardly be noticeable.

I do like that Jo lady Grin

It was her utter disappointment on seeing the skeleton and the curved spine and being told he had scoliosis (sp?) that was ridiculous. The experts had to spend the next 10 minutes convincing her that it was a GOOD thing and that' 'really, you wouldn't notice it with his clothes on' Shock Like she was child that needed placating after being told Santa wasn't real. God save us.
