To be happy that I am having another son?

I am currently 33 weeks pregnant with number two son.

When people ask me what I'm having and I happily say a boy...the main reaction is "oh another boy, what a shame it's not a girl - as that would be perfect"

I'm overjoyed with my 2 boys!

AIBU to slap the next person who says it? Grrrr

....and don't even get me started on "oh good grief look at your bump isn't it huge / too small / too low / too high etc" gah

When I was pregnant for 3rd time and already had two beautiful girls I could have cheerfully thumped the amazing number of people who said ' oh you MUST be hoping for a boy this time 'I once staggered in from the shops heavily pregnant and after another crass comment and declared I felt like one of Henry the 8ths wives! We loved our girls and it only made me want another girl even more.Well we got her and her and her sisters are all wonderful young women who make us so proud.Primarily we felt blessed to have healthy babies, either sex would have been as rewarding.

YANBU - I have 3 DSs and have had my fair share of this sort of inanity. I now pull a shocked face and smile inwardly as I watch them try to back-track Grin. But really, did they think I was going to agree with them?

PretzelTime · 04/02/2013 20:12

Plenty of teenage girls out there who are not "cows", Writehand.
I think girls on the whole have more issues to deal with as they become teens than boys. (Not that boys have it easy!)That might make them "bitchy."

SkinnybitchWannabe · 04/02/2013 20:13

Congratulations!
I've got 3 boys and if I got £1 for every person that either said they bet I was hoping for a girl when I was pregnant and go on have another go I might 'get lucky' and have a girl when I had ds number 3 I'd be a millionaire.
I'll never forget a friend telling me 'I've got a willy growing in there' whilst rubbing my stomach giggling, its always made me chuckle

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 04/02/2013 20:13

YANBU. I have a son who I adore. I would be overjoyed to have another.

Why do people say these things?

WorraLiberty · 04/02/2013 20:13

Congratulations!

I've got 3 of the feckers and it did me no harm Grin

Writehand · 04/02/2013 20:17

Pretzeltime -- you may be right, but that's not the vibe I get. The mums with teenage girls seem to have a much harder time generally speaking. This may be because girls, as you say have more issues to deal with as they become teens than boys.

But I know was a Class A cow, as I said.

marriedinwhite · 04/02/2013 20:19

Lovely baby should be the ticket really.

Speedos · 04/02/2013 20:25

YANBU I have 2 DS and the phrase that will make me strangle someone is when people refer to it being lucky to have one of each!

So do they think I am unlucky?!

Squitten · 04/02/2013 20:27

When I was pregnant with DS2, my Mum was absolutely certain that it would be a girl (she and her two siblings with kids all have one of each). We found out DS2 was a boy at the second scan and when I told her the first thing she said was "Oh", in a really downbeat tone. I was SO angry.

DS2 is so different from his older brother and they are starting to fight over toys now (4 & 2yrs) but generally they get on so well together and it's lovely. We'll be ttc a third baby this year and everyone assumes that we MUST want a girl now. It would be novel, for sure, but it would be just as nice to have a trio of boys too.

Pourquoimoi · 04/02/2013 20:36

YANBU - I have two boys and have been where you are. Agggghhhhh!

Enjoy! It's a wonderful combination Smile

spanky2 · 04/02/2013 20:37

Me too. Just glad I got them and they were healthy . A cliche I know !

BeattyBeatty · 04/02/2013 20:38

This should cheer you up!
Had a little chortle myself! Rings true!

Rilson · 04/02/2013 20:42

Congratulations!

We have 3 boys and that was actually our preference. Like dogs off a lead when out,on the go all the time and wrestle 24/7......but amazing.

Not planning on anymore but if we did we said we would love one last boy to join the gang.

I get spoiled rotten being the only girl :) I love it!

blackeyedsusan · 04/02/2013 20:46

because, apparently, one of each is a perfect set. Hmm no taking account of preference and cost or, it would seem, the need not to be so bloody rude.

Megatron · 04/02/2013 20:49

Well at the risk of sounding like a twat I reckon I can trump all. When my DD was seriously ill and in intensive care my MIL came to the hospital to 'comfort me'. We had been told to prepare ourselves for the worst and I was completely distraught when she arrived. She put her arm round me and said how dreadful it all was but that I should take comfort that at least it was DD and not 'the boy' (my DS) as that really would be a tragedy. I kid you not dear reader.

Foggles · 04/02/2013 20:50

Shock Megatron, I am speechless !!

Rilson · 04/02/2013 20:51

Megatron,I honestly am lost for words :(

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 04/02/2013 20:54

Megaton just Shock how disgusting :(

PretzelTime · 04/02/2013 20:54

Holy shit Megatron. Really?!

WorraLiberty · 04/02/2013 20:55

Megatron!! OMG Angry Sad

RubyrooUK · 04/02/2013 20:57

I'm having my second DS in a few weeks and I am very excited!

After having DS1, I realised that I wanted another child and didn't really think about it being "him" or "her" until the 20 week scan. I'd have been happy with either gender so was very excited to discover we had another boy on the way.

Have definitely felt a lot less excitement from friends and family this time - people were a bit like "oh well" when we said it was a boy - but that may be more to do with him being a second child rather than the gender.....Smile

BeattyBeatty · 04/02/2013 20:57

Shock and double Shock Shock Megatron!

Mockingcurl · 04/02/2013 20:58

I am a mother of three boys. I adore it. I am the only female in the house,so no young, slim, wrinkle free daughter to make me look ancient. I am always beautiful in their eyes. Boys love cuddles and making cakes. What's not to like?

LittlePicnic · 04/02/2013 20:59

Megatron- what did you say to her? That is shocking!
