to think this doesn't make me selfish?

dds think I'm selfish because I bought some phish food ice cream and they don't like it

they discovered a tub in the freezer

I'm a single parent

I hardly spend any money on myself, go out socially twice a year etc etc

they are my priority

I buy a tub of ben & jerry's every 3 months or so but apparently because I get it and don't get them any then I'm selfish

they get pocket money which they can spend how they like, they still have christmas sweets etc

I'm allowed a treat aren't I?

apparently they were joking when I told them they were self entitled but still Hmm

No. That does not make you selfish. Its pretty cheeky of them tbh. What age are they?

TTTatty · 29/01/2013 22:01

Yes, you most definitely are :-)))

TTTatty · 29/01/2013 22:02

I hide my treats, musili cereal box is perfect for hiding my thortons choclate.

SomeKindOfDeliciousBiscuit · 29/01/2013 22:05

If I'd tried that line with my mum in your position she would have gone apeshit , not unreasonably. Reading the post made me cringe at the thought Grin . You are entitled to your treat. Why not give yourself pocket money too, you might get ice cream more often!

Makes me feel I should get my mum some Ben & Jerry's...

sausagesandwich34 · 29/01/2013 22:08

their tweenage and have been told and apologised

sausagesandwich34 · 29/01/2013 22:09

I try not to go apeshit on a regular basis Grin

ImperialBlether · 29/01/2013 22:14

You need to buy it at the same time that they spend their pocket money. They can see then that that's your treat and they have theirs.

How old are they?

sausagesandwich34 · 29/01/2013 22:15

10&11

I would put a rocket up their arses. And start being s bit more selfish. Really.

Alisvolatpropiis · 29/01/2013 22:24

The only selfish people in this scenario are your children!

Glad you told them straight.

stella1w · 29/01/2013 22:26

I tried eating haagwd icecream in my bedroom after bedtime and dd heard me and came into challenge me. Sainsbry do vanilla with caramel... Kids actually dont like it! So i offer them that, then eat it myself.

StuntGirl · 29/01/2013 22:50

Not selfish at all, they were cheeky little madams for calling you that. I'm sure you're not feeding them gruel, so you are forgiven the occasional treat. Enjoy!

What I don't understand is children not liking Pfish food ice cream!

ShiftyFades · 29/01/2013 22:59

I just can't get past the fact that thy don't like Phish food ShockShockShock
Are they ill?

I wish my DH didn't like it, we squabble like toddlers over the last serving. If he didn't like it I'd have nothing in my freezer other than Phish food Wink

YANBU.... Where do you live, I can help you, and I'll bring some more Grin

sausagesandwich34 · 29/01/2013 23:01

greenshadow it's apparently too chocolatey not sure there is such a thing as too chocolatey

OP posts:
maninawomansworld · 01/02/2013 08:53

Tell them when they earn their own money they can spend it how they like, until then it's tough!

FireOverBabylon · 01/02/2013 10:44

It's chocolate ice cream with chocolate chunks in it. What's not to like philistines

Remind them of stuff you buy specifically for them, you have every right to collapse recline on the sofa with some Phish food of an evening when they've gone to bed.

Ooh, getting cravings now, that's my favourite but we don't have the budget for it unless it's on offer. Sad

Yfronts · 01/02/2013 10:48

Not selfish. It's selfish of them to think that you can have no treats after everything you do.

Flobbadobs · 01/02/2013 11:45

Eat the whole tub in front of them making the appropriate "mmmmmm" noises Grin
YABU for making me want some now though, its too cold to go out!!

Hoofhearted69 · 01/02/2013 11:46

I have an 8 yo son with a voracious appetite...he will routinely have a man sized meal and start cruising other people's plates (are you going to eat that..?) and god forbid he sees you with something he hasn't been offered, like gu puddings for example that I sometimes get for hubby and me as a special treat...however, I have started to tell him when he asks what's that, that it is tofu cake/pudding/fudge etc...explained what tofu is and am guaranteed to be left in peace to enjoy my monthly treat, without the plague of locust effect he has perfected...(HA! In your face, son...!). ;)

purrpurr · 01/02/2013 11:49

I don't like Phish Food either :/ now chocolate fudge brownie is a different matter entirely... If anything is 'too chocolatey' it's that. Mmm mm! Enjoy your ice cream and tell 'em to get stuffed - or whichever is the appropriate parental phrase.

diddl · 01/02/2013 12:23

So you´ve bought some foodstuff they don´t like?

But there is other stuff that they can eat?

But when you buy PF, you don´t always make sure that you buy ice cream for them as well?

TBH, if I was buying an ice cream that I knew no one else liked, then I would probably get some in that they did like.

But if they have sweets in the house, they´re not exactly "treatless" are they?

However, if I was called selfish over the issue, I wouldn´t be best pleased.
