There is no flavour to them, and take up space on the plate that could mean an extra roast potato

HecateWhoopass · 27/01/2013 19:11

Are you crazy?!
They're gorgeous!
And as a snack too.
You've not lived till you've tried cold yorkies with jam in!
Or cream. or ice cream and syrup.

Go on. Try it.

Then come back and thank me Grin

thornrose · 27/01/2013 19:13

Hecate, slightly warm with golden syrup for me. Starter, main and pud!

piprabbit · 27/01/2013 19:15

I was going to say golden syrup too. Or nutella is nice as well.

HecateWhoopass · 27/01/2013 19:23

Mmm warm puds filled with clotted cream ice cream and drizzled with syrup.

FreudiansSlipper · 27/01/2013 19:30

Aunt Bessie ones have no flavour

Make your own and cook them in beef dripping you will think differently then

Tortington · 27/01/2013 19:32

Just when i thought Mumsnet couldn't get any worse,

this thread is disgusting

Binfullofmaggotsonth45 · 27/01/2013 19:34

Come Dine With Meon now - Yorkshire pud as a starter in Barnsley!

Chesntoots · 27/01/2013 19:38

We used to have them as starters. Win, win situation!
Also great all soggy and cold with jam...

TheCunnyFuntIsAGrittersWife · 27/01/2013 19:42

Yabvu!

How exactly do you make them? I'm a little confused about your referance to making them with the meat juices Confused

pigletmania · 27/01/2013 20:11

Yabvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvu that is all

Moiraine · 27/01/2013 20:12

YABVU and either you're making them wrong or there's something wrong with you. Have you been to a doctor?

But I guess I should thank you, I was just writing my meal plan for the week & you've helped fill the gap!

ifancyashandy · 27/01/2013 20:13

Yorkshires made with beef dripping and then eaten with jam/cream/golden/maple syrup?!?

Eeek.....

notsofrownieface · 27/01/2013 20:17

Shock yabVu. In fact you are being so unreasonable it is hard to get the degree of unreasonable right as it is so high.

PS you are making them wrong.

Enfyshedd · 27/01/2013 20:32

I make Yorkshire Puddings that my Yorkshire born & bred DP declares are the best he's ever had (smugface).

Half a pint of milk
Pinch of salt & pepper
2 eggs
Half a teaspoon of English mustard
About 4-6 heaped dessert spoons of self raising flour

Add 3 spoons of the flour to the other ingredients in a blender & mix. Add the rest of the flour until the bubbles in the mix don't burst immediately (thick-ish cream consistency?).

Heat enough oil to cover the bottom of tray/dish in oven until bubbling, then add the batter (batter should start to bubble at the edges instantly). Cook for 30-45mins.

As a rule, mine have crisp sides & a soggy middle (I make a big pan). It tastes lush and I'm gutted DP is currently on a very low fat diet due to his cholesterol.

HecateWhoopass · 27/01/2013 20:35

don't knock it till you've tried it, ifancy. Grin use oil instead of dripping if you're having them as a pud.

Allinonebucket · 27/01/2013 20:39

What is WRONG with some people? I despair.

piprabbit · 27/01/2013 20:57

Have you never eaten a steamed suet pudding, or a mince pie, ifancy? They are traditionally made with beef suet, flour and sweet stuff.

Tanith · 27/01/2013 21:06

Definitely YABU...

...unless we are talking about those revolting Aunt Bessie's ones that my mum serves up. Do they have sugar added to them or something? They are vile!

ravenAK · 27/01/2013 21:19

(nicking that monologue for a lesson on dialect!)

I've missed yorkies - had a crap 2nd hand cooker (makeshift whilst getting round to having kitchen done) & it wouldn't get hot enough. It's now blown up, hurrah!

& crap makeshift cooker #2 heats up like a good 'un, so it'll be puddens next week. Yum.

I made Yorkshire puddings for the very first time today. They were amazing. I have decided I will serve them with just about everything from now on.

diaimchlo · 27/01/2013 21:47

I am scared to let my son see this thread he would be mortified.... he makes the most tremendous Yorkies I have ever tasted before in my 54 years. Try this recipe, make sure your fat is sizzling then bake they grow at least 10 times bigger:)

140g plain flour (this is about 200ml/7fl oz)
4 eggs (200ml/7fl oz)
200ml milk
sunflower oil , for cooking
salt and pepper for seasoning

You can substitute 100ml of the milk for 100mi of soda water which makes them very light:)

DamnBamboo · 27/01/2013 21:50

I don't really like them either OP.

Can't see what the fuss is.

My kids however, end up making 4-5 small ones each because they love them sooooo much.

Even teen DSD who is more often than not these days off her food, will devour them pretty sharpish.

NoelHeadbands · 27/01/2013 21:52

How dare you.

How DARE you.

If you were standing near me now I'd bitchslap you into next week. And I'm not a violent person.

AmberSocks · 27/01/2013 22:05

there no bland than the rest of a roast dinner imo.
