To have a nice civilized conversation on mum's net. Free from swearing and all other kinds of unpleasantness. Where the topics of conversation are such delightful things as the Queen, tea, cakes and gardening, with perhaps a bit of singing thrown in for good measure. So Ill kick it off shall I, what is everyones favourite cake, mine is a Victoria Sponge

Who new that even cake could offend people Grin
Am also partial to a coffee and walnut cake

BadgersNadgers · 26/01/2013 17:22

We have two wood pigeons that visit our garden, the fence buckles under the weight of the fat little feckers.

I like ducks, I'd like to have some pet ducks.

Callmedoe · 26/01/2013 17:30

badgers that is precisely the reason I call them waddling porkers. Thank you for your contribution, this thread is like a breath of fresh air compared to some of the madness out there.

Aw but they are so pretty with their pink bellies and the collars on the neck even though I also have fence issue :o

I like ducks but think I'd prefer chickens for yummy eggs to make non offensive thread approved cakes :o

BadgersNadgers · 26/01/2013 17:45

Ooo but duck eggs are lovely and rich for cakes.

I've got some meringues in the oven just now.

ll31 · 26/01/2013 17:48

Nick, Nick, Nick, Kate, Kate, Kate. I know you're not supposed to talk about threads on other threads or something but a poster on another thread referred to a Victoria Sandwich as a Victoria Sponge. Don't worry I put them right.

Pistachio muffins sound delicious.

OwllwOOwllwO · 26/01/2013 20:19

God I need a nice decent thread after so much shit from another....

Anyway

Favourite cake...I'm a sucker for muffins, any muffin....they're cakes right?

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 26/01/2013 20:20

Are you allowed any jam in a Victoria Sandwich? Or does it have to red to be Victoria?

Callmedoe · 26/01/2013 20:24

what kind of jam isn't red!?!

OP posts:
JeezyOrangePips · 26/01/2013 20:26

apricot jam... blackcurrant jam... greengage jam... blackberry jam... and more besides

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 26/01/2013 20:27

Are you telling me I coulda been putting the wrong jam in my cakes all these years Shock please tell me raspberry is permitted???

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 26/01/2013 20:28

Orange jam, which isn't marmalade

BadgersNadgers · 26/01/2013 20:30

I believe that the WI rules say that a vicky sandwich is cake with raspberry jam - no cream, no buttercream, no fancy schmansy mascarpone.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 26/01/2013 20:33

Shock no butter cream???!!!

That's the best bit!!!!

HotPinkWeaselWearingLederhosen · 26/01/2013 20:34

Yes I've heard to strict no cream rule too.

Emo76 · 26/01/2013 20:36

Jaffa cake - or is that a biscuit?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 26/01/2013 20:37
Callmedoe · 26/01/2013 20:46

It all gets a bit confusing with marmalade, curd and jam.I can't believe the no butter cream rule though. The WI have gone down in my estimation quite frankly.
