AIBU?

Marmite and marriage! (Lighthearted)

DH and I have been married for 17years, through all this time he has known there is a line that you do not cross, the marmite line, on one side is me the hater, the other is him the lover, I am quite happy for him to indulge in his vile habit and there is space in the cupboard for him to store the various jars he collects, I believe I am showing a level of tolerance that is above and beyond what most women would endure.

He knows that if he wants to indulge and spread the sludge on his bread he can but he must keep it away from me and anything that I cherish and hold dear.

The bastard has introduced MY dog to it and the bitch likes it. I don't know who has betrayed me more, him for crossing the line or her for siding with him on the love it/hate it argument

I can't believe he would risk 17 years of marriage for this.

AIBU or should I LTB

Marmite and cress? I thought you hated it! Does Marmite and cress cause some weird chemical reaction that will kill me?! :o

DH swears by it, he's not dead yet, although if he feeds my dog it again he might beGrin

Marmite is grim. YANBU.

Love it

I love it, DH hates it. I sneak it into stews and casseroles and he says he really enjoys them. I snigger at this a lot.

I love Marmite and adore Vegemite - a smidge less salty imho.

I mix it with butter before spreading on hot toast made from an uncut loaf.

Report
Bogeyface · 20/01/2013 20:52

Vegemite is rank! Its oily and just not Marmitey at all!

I realise that I may be biased though as we live where it is made and my dad used to work at the factory!

Hmmm. Marmite on crumpets or DH.

Marmite.

Sorry DH.

DH tried the sneak trick once and only once, he used a marmite stock cube, I could taste it, he denied it but found the wrapper, he's never tried feeding it me again, the consequences were too great.

Another one for you to try Bogey is marmite and cold curry on toast.

I'm glad to see that the marmite haters are beginning to support me, I was starting to feel very alone.

Marmite roast potatoes are a wonderful thing. After par-boiling spread a spoon of marmite over. It melts and it's only a very thin coat. A dessert spoon would do enough potatoes to feed 12 at Xmas (for example).

Guaranteed brown potatoes with a savory tang.

(I've sneaked this past non-marmite eaters - but have always had a couple of non-marmited roasties just in case)

Binkyridesagain · 20/01/2013 21:39

Elfy - nooooooooooo Shock you can't do that to a roastie, the levels people will stoop to to get their kicks, I'm disgusted!

You think you've got it bad.

In this house I HEART Marmite. DH the sick feckin weirdo loves I can barely type it Bovril.

The battle lines were drawn when it came to DS. Both of us have tried to exert -extreme arm twisting guidance. Underhand tactics may have been deployed.

MARMITE has prevailed!!!!

All is well in the world.

Bogeyface · 20/01/2013 22:20

In what way Bovril Enjoy? I used to spoon it out of the jar (dad worked at the factory and would bring it home by the tray load!) but cant stick it as a drink!

Bovril and Marmite are made in the same place btw! The factory was know locally as "Bovril" until fairly recently with the love hate campaign.

You're all vile, well all those that don't agree with me Grin

DH is loving this though, the dog however has gone back to snorting fanjo and appears to not care about the riff she's caused

OP posts:

Bogeyface · 20/01/2013 22:33

Fanjo sniffing is better than the odd bit of Marmite on toast?

This is getting rather weird.......

Report
Binkyridesagain · 20/01/2013 22:38

DH is loving this THREAD it should have read. He's not sniffing fanjo, well I hope not, I think the dog might object.

IMO personally I'd rather sniff fanjo than eat marmite, as long as its clean

Bogeyface · 20/01/2013 22:40

Marmite fanjo might tempt me, but even then it would have to be the black or gold marmite!

Sending a marmite flavoured Mwah to your DH! :o

Bogey he has it on toast x billion.

I like it as a drink. I add it to Shepherds pie. Hell I'm a derivative kinda gal.

But when it comes to toast, it's Marmite all the way baby.

Are you from Blackwall by any chance?

Report
Bogeyface · 20/01/2013 22:44

Its nice on toast! Gopping in cup although that may be because my grandma forced it on us if we were ill and my sister once had D&V. Grandma gave her a cup and she was spectacularly ill! Neither of us has had it since!

Burton on Trent, the home of Marmite!

Marmite on crumpets or DH, ModredB. Interesting concept. Wink

I'm a lover, not a hater. I used to tell prospective parents when I was childminding that I was a Marmite lover too! I have changed many a child into a lover, much to their parents disgust! Grin
