...In thinking Reading (the town) should change it's name?

It makes Googling a right pain in the botty. You put something like "BDSM Reading" for whatever reason into the Googlebox and it gives you a load of books you might like to read.

I suggest Tiggy City.

I agree! It is a pita when googling stuff. I suggest impty town.

TiggyD · 18/01/2013 15:48

Tiggy City and I'll re-name the Whitley part after you Impty.

Think you two should be employed by the government to rename all towns in Britain! X

impty · 18/01/2013 15:49

Fair enough Tiggy Grin

Petsinmypudenda · 18/01/2013 15:50

Born and bred in in reading! can you rename the high rises in coley after me. Winslet got crappy flats named after her and i want some to

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/01/2013 15:51

I used to go to the festival a lot. Can you rename the road to the festival grounds Pratchett Way?

Lora1982 · 18/01/2013 15:52

RuleBritannia · 18/01/2013 15:56

RedBindy No Gaol Town. Oscar Wilde's Ballad of Reading Gaol.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 18/01/2013 15:57

How about 'Not-Like-It-Used-To-Be-When-I-Was-Growing-Up' ?

It used to be lovely - a nice family place to go shopping at the weekend. It's horrible now and ridiculously bloody expensive to park. I want use a space for a few hours - not buy the car park!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/01/2013 16:00

A bit like searching for the band James in Amazon, you get millions of hits.

lisac99 · 18/01/2013 16:03

I lived there for 10 years and still live relatively close. I think there are nice parts (Lower Earley, Woodley) and not so nice parts (Whitley), however I guess that's the same wherever you are.

The one way system is horrendous though.... and total gridlock at Junction 11 most nights!

TiggyD · 18/01/2013 16:04

I'm a Pratchett fan too. Kings Meadow becomes Pratchett Meadow, and Reading University becomes The Unseen University.

The flats are yours Pets. I do feel sorry for Winslet having a dodgy bit named after her. Nothing for Ricky Gervais yet.

YES LORA. Reading is full of kinky fuckery but nobody can find it due to the Google issue.

Marlinspike · 18/01/2013 16:06

It used to be known as the beer, biscuits and bulbs town - which is almost WineBiscuitThanks!

ThingummyBob · 18/01/2013 16:06

You think you've got it hard Hmm think of the poor residents of Sandwich and their googling nightmares Grin

daisydoodoo · 18/01/2013 16:15

I'm in one of the nicer parts of Reading already mentioned on this thread. Everyone pronounce s it reeding if they'vennot heard of it.

I do question why I moved back from York as its not what it used to be. But within the wokingham borough part there are some fab schools and lot's of open spaces parks etc. Ideal for family life.

It seemed everywhere I lived in york I was one street away from a troubled area.

RustyBear · 18/01/2013 16:18

Ahem - Wokingham is not 'part of' Reading, daisydoodoo....

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/01/2013 16:24

I thoroughly approve of the Unseen University and Pratchett Meadow. Grin

Marlinspike · 18/01/2013 16:31

I hail from Caversham.... any other north-bankers here?

pleasestoptalking · 18/01/2013 16:35

hey marlinspike - me too

OTTMummA · 18/01/2013 16:41

It used to be spelt Reeding according to an old map my inlaws have. not sure why it changed :S why are we also still a town? What are the requirements to be named a city?

JammySplodger · 18/01/2013 16:44

We used to live in a town called March, in Cambs. That was far more of a pain to google than Reading (lived there too).

moogy1a · 18/01/2013 16:46

One of my most disappointing experiences was the lack of books at the Reading festival.
