to think clothes with hoods for young babies are absolutely ridiculous? (not including coats obviously).

Why does everything in the baby section seem to have a hood recently?

If a baby is lying on the floor or slouched in a bouncer they won't want a hood scrunched up at the back.

And if they're indoors they won't want a hood up!

Bit ranty and judgy pants of me but I just don't get it.

I want some traditional cheap cardigans for ds .... apart from spending quite a lot or searching few and far between most things seem to have a hood.

Sigh.

That's exactly what I thought Fairylea. Grin

It won't get any better as he gets older.
I've practically given up looking for sweatshirts/fleeces for DS1 (3). He has "posh" jumpers from debenhams sale, or (his current favourite) school sweatshirt from George Blush (realises you are years off this stage) (heads of thread)

Pigsmummy · 16/01/2013 20:06

Hooded cardi's have been a godsend to us, used one today and don't see what the issue is. (we are not chavs btw).

Lonelybunny · 16/01/2013 20:13

I knit all my baby's cardigans :) problem solved here

Fairylea · 16/01/2013 20:15

I wish school jumpers fitted :)

So those of you who use the hooded things - what do you do with the hood when you lie your dc down in one?? Do you just not worry about it and let them lay on the hood all crumpled up? Confused..... that doesn't seem comfy to me no matter how handy it is to have a hood for popping out ...

And then you have to put a coat or whatever on them anyway so might as well use the hood on that? Or do you double hood ?

I am over thinking this aren't I. It's just a bloody hood.

I blame lack of sleep.

I have never thought that lying on a hood irritated my children in any shape or form Grin, it certainly never caused any additional crying, moaning or lack of sleep. Mind you they would have to sleep in the first place for me to compare!

I don't really use proper coats until about a year or so anyway so no double hooding Grin

1991all · 16/01/2013 20:26

DS always had them
I never thought he was uncomfortable
I never gave it much thought actually

But you're right, it doesn't make much sense!

SunbathingintheRain · 16/01/2013 20:34

YANBU, I remember having the same problem. My top tip is cheap hand knitted cardis off ebay. Very warm and no hoods :)

NewYearNewNagoo · 16/01/2013 20:42

I have bald babies.

I like a hood :)

Apart from a nice hooded cardi mine were in babygros most of the time while they were small.

I liked a fleecy fancy dress costume as well, they have hoods :) I had a baby dinosaur Grin

nextphase · 16/01/2013 20:48

YANBU. Drives me round the bend.

For a start, hood sizes are all over the place - small, large, massive - they bunch up, ds in the buggy used to turn his head to the side and get half a hoody over his face - if you really need to keep a baby's head warm, they don't fit as well or as snugly as a stretchy hat.

And they screw up layering. If you get thin top with a hood and a cardie with a hood, that's a pointless big wodge of material to deal with - and then you add a coat with a hood on top - that's three hoods, ridiculous.

Now that ds is a toddler, I still don't like hooded tops on him. They get in the way - get caught on things, and other kids grab them and pull, so it all gets a bit garottey. Can't stand them (hoods, not kids).

PurplePidjin · 16/01/2013 21:40

Nagoo, I'm developing a nice line in crocheted hats - reindeer on profile, he also has a rabbit and a cat and I'm working on a giraffe for a friend's toddler...

5madthings · 16/01/2013 21:44

Yanbu I always found this odd!

They are great for out and as bout, especially in the sling but not for in the house or cars east etc, I just thought it looked uncomfortable especially as little babies spend so much time on their backs.

spongeypants · 16/01/2013 21:48

I am thankful for any hoods at the moment because its freezing and DD2 still chucks her hat off so I put her in a hooded top and a hooded coat.

NewYearNewNagoo · 16/01/2013 22:02

aww pidj so cute :) You are very clever.

One of friends does crochet, she made an ace hat complete with santa beard for her tiny baby Grin

purrpurr · 16/01/2013 22:08

Huh. I asked my mum to knit things with hoods. I think I might actually be a giant chav but hadn't noticed :S

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 16/01/2013 22:12

Yanbu. They just get in the way.
