to buy my 2.5 year old a full size single bed?

He's sleeping in his cot bed, and I don't think he finds it very comfortable. I was looking at "children's" beds today, and read something about them being suitable for children up to 7 or 8 years old...

Would it be unreasonable to think that a good quality full size single bed will last him until further notice, not just until he's 7? Don't fancy forking out in a few years time for another bed. Am I being tight? Grin

Just to point out, toddler beds are only pointless extra expenditure if you have overall bought: cot + toddler bed = single bed. I bought a cot that converted to a cot bed (which my DS is very happy in, with its sides off) so have only paid out once so far and won't have to spend any more till he has outgrown the toddler bed (since he is not the tallest I have a while). Same as if I'd bought cot + single bed. I'd also agree with LadyIsabellaWrotham above that if they really help the child settle into good sleep habits then it's probably worthwhile expenditure. Having said all that, OP you are of course NBU to buy whatever bed you want.

Mine went into a full sized single at 18 months. She'd been on a mattress on the floor before that so she didn't ahve far to fall if she did manage to wriggle out. We have a bed guard.

I would never in my life dream of buying a special child sized bed unless we didn't have a room long enough for a full size one.

Yup, straight into single bed from cot. we put the old cot mattress on the floor as padding in case she fell out but that didn't happen - she liked sitting on it to play though, kept it for years.

She's 13 now, we replaced the bed mattress a few years ago, the frame is still going strong.

Buy a normal size bed and save having to buy another in a few years.
Ds2 went into a double bed when he was 2, it was the only spare bed in the house that wasn't a bunk bed, so it became his. He looked so tiny it was funny, but he loved it, he used it as a soft play area in the daytime and fileld the bookshelf headboard with toys and books.

I posted a thread about this last week.

We are getting 20mo ds a bed soon but I don't know when he'll actually be moving as dc2 won't need the cot until some time after being born in August.

He filled the book shelf not whatever word I used!

I put an eighteen month old in a double with a bed guard. Very handy if mine of us had to sleep in with her.

I was afraid I was being a bit cheap and that kids size beds were just the next step. Glad to hear lots of other people do without them too.
