AIBU?

In telling DS that he is not taking his silly routine to the school talent show auditions.

DS (Aged 8) and his friend of same age want to take part in the talent competition doing a "fighting" routine sort of martial arts style.
This is a bloody ridiculous AIBU, but I am torn between letting them do it and then finding out that it is a bad idea and telling them NO because someone will get hurt and they have no chance of getting through anyway.

They were showing me their "routine" in the play ground after school when one of the teachers told the boys to stop what they were doing.
ARGH!! What should I do? I think this is one of those times when I should be the adult and say NO they cannot do it!!

(Apologies for the non-issue that this AIBU is)

Well done to your ds. It's much better that he had a go than to sit in the audience wishing he had.
I had a very similar experience to other on here. DS who had previously loathed doing anything on stage decided he was going to enter a school talent contest with a dance routine. He'd never danced in his life before! I had palpatations worrying that he was going to be the butt of jokes for the rest of his school career. I put my own anxieties to one side and he only went on to come second! By all accounts he was robbed. He was a hero to the boys (some of whom begged him to let them join him in the final) and heartthrob to the girls. It was a real turnaround in his confidence and it taught me a hell of a lesson.

Oh, that's sweet. :)

I often feel cringey at things DS will do, and worry about him being laughed at. This thread is a great reminder to let him be. Thanks OP!
